HealthCorps, a national non-profit organization, is committed to improving the lives of youth, both mentally and physically, by addressing health inequities in communities through innovative and engaging experiences in education, leadership, and service learning. As a Teen Health Education Intern, you will play a vital role in implementing our mission and making a positive impact on the lives of teens in the Oklahoma City area. Who We Are and What We Do At HealthCorps, we empower teens to become change agents within their families, schools, and neighborhoods. Our innovative wellness club, Teens Make Health Happen, is designed to promote improved health and wellness, and create leadership opportunities for teens. As a Teen Health Education Intern, you will serve as a near-peer mentor to local middle and high school students, leading our health and wellness club and supporting teens in planning and leading wellness programming such as lunchtime demonstrations, step challenges, and community improvement projects. Key Responsibilities As a Teen Health Education Intern, your key responsibilities will include: Developing strong relationships with teen wellness leaders and site partners to ensure effective delivery of HealthCorps' programming across 1-3 school sites Assessing the health needs and progress of the schools you serve, and measuring the impact of your work through needs assessments, reporting, and tracking Managing the Teens Make Health Happen club, planning and implementing the successful delivery of the program, and committing 6-8+ hours per week to the mentorship Sharing and making aware the importance of health and wellness through hosting Café O Yea demonstrations, supporting regional events, and contributing to HealthCorps' social media platforms Representing HealthCorps and embodying our values, both inside and outside your assigned sites, and being an asset in outreach efforts that connect teens, staff, and community members to HealthCorps resources and materials Essential Qualifications To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following essential qualifications: A current undergraduate or graduate college student majoring, or interested, in public health, public policy, biology, nutrition, marketing, psychology, education, social work, or other related fields Good academic standing with your university A commitment of 6-8+ hours per week to the mentorship for 1-2 semesters A self-expectation and strong desire to grow personally and professionally as a leader in the community, and as a speaker who is comfortable in learning and presenting on health-related topics to a teen audience Preferred Qualifications While not required, the following preferred qualifications will make you a stronger candidate for this role: Previous experience working with teens or in a related field Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment Skills and Competencies To succeed as a Teen Health Education Intern, you will need to possess the following skills and competencies: Strong leadership and mentoring skills Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work with diverse populations and communities Strong organizational and time management skills Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities Career Growth Opportunities and Learning Benefits As a Teen Health Education Intern, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in public health and education, and develop valuable skills and competencies that will benefit you in your future career.
