About the Role As a Youth Instructor - Safe Sitter Instructor, you will play a vital role in shaping the minds of our young participants, promoting their physical, emotional, and social development. You will be responsible for designing and delivering high-quality classes that are both fun and educational, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment for all participants. Key Responsibilities Lead engaging classes: Plan and instruct progressive classes in your area of specialty, using provided curriculum and terminology to ensure a cohesive and effective learning experience. Motivate and engage participants: Encourage individual progress, provide positive feedback, and foster a supportive and inclusive class environment. Ensure safety and well-being: Respond to and report any accidents or incidents, and maintain a safe and healthy environment for all participants. Communicate effectively: Observe and communicate individual progress with participants and parents, providing regular updates and feedback. Set up and manage equipment: Set up, take down, and report any equipment problems, ensuring that classes are well-equipped and run smoothly. Participate in special events: Assist in special events and programs as required, demonstrating flexibility and a willingness to contribute to the success of the YMCA. Essential Qualifications To be considered for this role, you must meet the following essential qualifications: Minimum age 18: You must be at least 18 years old to apply for this position. Formal training and experience: You must have formal training, knowledge, and experience in the applicable specialty area in which you will be teaching. Customer service and communication skills: You must have demonstrated customer service and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with participants, parents, and YMCA staff. Ability to lead a class: You must be able to individually lead a class and motivate participants, creating a positive and engaging learning environment. Emergency response: You must be able to respond to safety and emergency situations, remaining calm and effective in high-pressure situations. Preferred Qualifications While not essential, the following qualifications are highly desirable: Experience teaching young children, youth, and/or teens: Previous experience working with children and young people is highly valued, as it demonstrates your ability to adapt to different age groups and needs.
