About the Role We are seeking an experienced Distributed Systems Engineer to join our Data Platform team. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in advancing and growing our infrastructure as we pursue our ambitious goal of reaching 500 million individuals worldwide. Focus in Data Infrastructure Groups Our Data Infrastructure groups are the backbone of our operations, enabling us to leverage data to drive business decisions and deliver exceptional customer experiences. The groups include: Database Access Platform : This team builds and operates a scalable query gateway that facilitates data abstractions to work at sub-millisecond latencies, allowing arenaflex microservices to store, consume, and manage their data more effectively. Data Platform Infrastructure : This team acts as a platform for our internal data platforms, providing a common framework and tooling that enables arenaflex to rapidly simplify the delivery of cutting-edge data and analytics systems to the rest of the organization without building custom platforms for each new system. Data Ingestion and Processing : This team offers a self-service cleared path product to enable varied client personas across arenaflex to meet their low-latency Data Ingestion and Processing requirements, enabling reflection across complex streaming structures like Kafka and Flink, and offering a pattern-driven processing experience. Big Data Figure : This team is responsible for providing the cloud-native platform for distributed data processing at arenaflex, offering support for Spark, ETL data into the Petabytes-scale data warehouse, and access to that data using Spark and Voila/TrinoDB. Big Data Solution : This team offers the platform for planning, orchestrating, and executing big data jobs and workflows in a self-serve way, including essential services that have all ETL and ML jobs running on Big Data Systems at arenaflex. Key Responsibilities As a Distributed Systems Engineer at arenaflex, your key responsibilities will include: Designing and building scalable, versatile, and highly available distributed systems infrastructure Collaborating with engineers, product managers, and TPMs across teams to drive cross-functional initiatives Applying programming and analytical problem-solving skills to address real business needs at scale Communicating our experiences to the open-source communities and contributing to arenaflex OSS Working with Java or other object-oriented programming languages to build and operate distributed systems Essential Qualifications To be successful in this role, you should have: 2+ years of experience in building large-scale distributed systems components or applications A BS in Computer Science or a related field Experience in designing and developing RESTful web services Knowledge of Java or other object-oriented programming languages Familiarity with multi-threading and experience in building and operating scalable, fault-tolerant, distributed systems Preferred Qualifications While not required, the following qualifications are preferred: Experience with cloud-native platforms and distributed data processing Knowledge of Spark, Presto/Trino, Druid, and distributed database systems Familiarity with open-source communities and experience contributing to OSS projects Experience with event-driven and intelligent scheduling systems Career Growth Opportunities and Learning Benefits At arenaflex, we are committed to the growth and development of our employees.
