About the Center for World Languages and Cultures The CWLC is a vibrant hub of language learning and cultural exploration at the University of Denver. By integrating languages and cultures into various disciplines and fields of study, the CWLC promotes intercultural competency and prepares students for success in a globalized world. The Center houses the first-year language program (FYLP), which offers courses in nine languages, including German. The FYLP provides students with a comprehensive introduction to languages and cultures, laying the foundation for further study and exploration. Position Summary We are seeking a full-time Teaching Assistant Professor of German to teach the first-year German language sequence, humanities courses taught in English, and other relevant courses as needed. This is a non-tenure track position with a three-year contract, full benefits, and the possibility of renewal and promotion. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence, culturally responsive teaching practices, and innovative approaches to language instruction. Key Responsibilities Teach eight classes over three academic quarters, including first-year language courses and humanities courses taught in English Develop and implement a rigorous first-year German curriculum and assessments Coordinate German sections in the FYLP and lead adjunct faculty Participate in CWLC meetings and committees, as well as CAHSS and University committees Collaborate with CWLC colleagues and the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures program faculty on recruitment and language advocacy initiatives Advise students on placement and participate in retention efforts Implement program assessment in the spring quarter Essential Qualifications Master's degree or ABD in German Studies, German Linguistics, Second Language Acquisition with a focus on German, or Education Native or near-native fluency in German and English 1-2 years of teaching experience at the university level in the United States Evidence of teaching using task-based, communicative methodologies and culturally responsive teaching practices Experience with course management systems such as Canvas Availability to teach classes face-to-face on campus Preferred Qualifications Ph.D. in German Studies, German Linguistics, Second Language Acquisition with a focus on German, or Education 3+ years of teaching experience at the university level in the United States Experience in program development and curriculum design Extended residence or extensive travel in the German-speaking world Experience teaching diverse student populations and managing courses via Canvas What We Offer The University of Denver offers a competitive salary range of $58,000 - $60,000, as well as excellent benefits, including medical, dental, retirement, paid time off, tuition benefits, and an ECO pass.
