We are expanding platforms that serve thousands of students and teams worldwide: TimeBack: An educational platform that drives Alpha School's 2-hour learning model, achieving 99th percentile test outcomes. Incept: A content generation platform responsible for producing all personalized educational materials used across multiple learning applications at Alpha School. Crossover: An AI-driven hiring platform that evaluates tens of thousands of candidates monthly, supporting staffing needs for schools and organizations across the globe. You will take ownership of one of these platforms, dedicating the majority of your time to constructing the most intricate components of the codebase with a compact team of 3-5 experienced engineers—no junior members. The architectural choices you make will dictate whether other teams can swiftly develop new applications, integrate seamlessly, and deliver value to students. Correct decisions unlock significant leverage; poor ones generate integration failures and stall progress across numerous teams. You are responsible for both building and operating what you architect. You define quality standards and establish patterns for your platform. Our process is specification-driven: design precedes implementation, and planning always comes before execution. Expect high autonomy with no committees or approval boards. This is a small, cohesive team where you own the outcomes of what you deliver. What You Will Be Doing Technical Leadership: Drive strategic architectural choices and define technical patterns that guide the team's work. AI Leadership: Champion the integration of emerging AI workflows and develop high-value playbooks. Implementation: Construct the most complex and critical sections of the codebase in collaboration with your team. Quality Reviews: Verify that your team adheres to established patterns and upholds quality benchmarks. What You Won’t Be Doing Serving as an architect without hands-on implementation Spending time in unproductive, prolonged meetings Managing personnel (this position focuses on technical leadership, not people management) Maintaining legacy systems or supporting internal IT infrastructure Basic Requirements Staff Software Engineer key responsibilities A minimum of 5 years of professional software development experience creating software products At least 3 years in a lead engineer role (conducting code reviews) or as an architect (driving critical technical decisions) Proven experience developing platform-level products where other teams integrated with your APIs Strong commitment to AI tools, with a track record of active experimentation and exploring new capabilities About LearnWith.AI LearnWith.AI is an edtech startup that leverages AI and subject matter experts to cultivate a new way of learning. Working with us This is a full-time (40 hours per week), long-term position. The position is immediately available and requires entering into an independent contractor agreement with Crossover as a Contractor of Record. The compensation level for this role is $100 USD/hour, which equates to $200,000 USD/year assuming 40 hours per week and 50 weeks per year. The payment period is weekly.
