What You'll Do As an Oncology Department Specialty Registered Nurse, you will report directly to the Practice Manager. Under general supervision, you will provide nursing care and perform nursing procedures specific to the specialty practice in support of medical care as directed by the physician. You will prepare patients for examinations, record patients' medical histories and symptoms, perform diagnostic tests, operate medical equipment, and administer treatment and medications. You may assist a physician in minor surgeries and with patient follow-ups, you may complete laboratory duties as necessary, and you will routinely communicate with patients and physicians in a professional and courteous manner. Specialty Registered Nurse Job Responsibilities • Patient Care & Clinical Support: Provide routine nursing care under physician direction, including vital signs, medication administration, specimen collection, lab tests, and patient education. Assist with exams, minor procedures, and emergency care. • Specialty Nursing Functions: Support specialty procedures (e.g., minor surgeries, stress tests, pacemaker checks), perform diagnostic tests (e.g., EKGs, IVs), and administer treatments. Monitor patients and collaborate with physicians and care teams. • Workflow & Team Coordination: Assign and support back-office staff, monitor daily workflow, complete chart audits, and ensure timely task completion. Maintain smooth patient flow and prioritize emergencies. • Administrative & Recordkeeping: Maintain accurate patient records, chart communications, manage referrals and insurance pre-authorizations, and prepare reports. Handle phone calls and relay messages. • Equipment & Safety Compliance: Sterilize instruments, manage supplies, check emergency carts, audit narcotics, and follow OSHA and universal precautions for cleanliness and safety. • Other Duties: Support departmental effectiveness through special projects and additional assignments as needed. What You Bring As a Specialty Registered Nurse, you bring a high level of knowledge and competency in performing nursing procedures and your advanced analytical skills are necessary to solve complex problems and make decisions related to patient care. You demonstrate the interpersonal skills necessary to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, patients, visitors, physicians and others. You demonstrate the ability to communicate, both verbally and in writing, in a clear and concise manner. You have an understanding of the need to be responsive and reasonably adaptable for scheduling purposes, when necessary, due to extenuating circumstances in support of co-workers and department functions.
