EMS Program Faculty - Paramedic

About the position The UCLA Center for Prehospital Care at the David Geffen School of Medicine in the Department of Emergency Medicine is seeking a Paramedic Program Faculty member to join our Paramedic Education team. EMS Program Faculty work under the direction of the Paramedic Program Director and collaborate closely with the Medical Director, fellow educators, and the management team within the UCLA Center for Prehospital Care. This role includes delivering engaging instruction across various paramedic education programs, including primary, hybrid, refresher, and continuing education courses. As a member of our EMS Program Faculty, you will provide direct student support through academic coaching, remediation, and performance assessments. Responsibilities include developing and delivering interactive lectures, instructing hands-on skills labs, incorporating simulation-based learning, and serving as an academic advisor. You will also participate in curriculum development, including lesson plan alignment with current EMS guidelines and assessments, and contribute to educational research initiatives. Professional collaboration with department directors, administrative staff, and students is essential, as is engagement in outreach events representing the paramedic program. This is a full-time position requiring an on-site presence 3-4 days per week, including some evenings and occasional weekends. Responsibilities • Deliver engaging instruction across various paramedic education programs. • Provide direct student support through academic coaching, remediation, and performance assessments. • Develop and deliver interactive lectures. • Instruct hands-on skills labs. • Incorporate simulation-based learning. • Serve as an academic advisor. • Participate in curriculum development, including lesson plan alignment with current EMS guidelines and assessments. • Contribute to educational research initiatives. • Collaborate with department directors, administrative staff, and students. • Engage in outreach events representing the paramedic program. Requirements • Current licensure as a Paramedic, Physician Assistant, Registered Nurse or higher in State of California (or ability to obtain licensure). • Ability to obtain Paramedic Accreditation in the County of Los Angeles. • Baccalaureate degree and/or equivalent years of experience and training in health related field, nursing, health care administration, health care education, emergency medical services or a related field (Masters preferred). • Minimum of five (5) years EMS work experience on an ambulance, fire department or in a hospital emergency department. • Minimum of three (3) years of teaching experience in emergency medical services or equivalent health care setting. • Previous experience coordinating, delivering, and evaluating education courses. • Detailed knowledge and formal training in education theory and the use of simulation to meet learning objectives. • Demonstrated experience with distant education programs and supportive technology (ie. Adobe Connect, LMS, etc.) as an instructor and/or student (preferred). • Detailed knowledge and skill in prehospital care procedures and techniques. • Detailed knowledge of EMT and Paramedic and related program course policies, objectives, and requirements (preferred). • Detailed knowledge of Primary, Recertification, and Preparatory training programs. • Detailed knowledge of all pertinent provider level skills and the ability to provide instruction of same including being able to perform and effectively teach required skills. • Excellent communication and instructional presentation skills with the ability to translate complex concepts into understandable parts. • Must be able to work independently and follow through on assignments with attention to detail and minimal direction. • Proven experience demonstrating organizational, multi-tasking, and 'follow through' skills. • Interpersonal skills to excel in relations with supervisors, staff, students, and the public. • Skill in working and collaborating effectively as part of a team. • Must have valid unrestricted Driver's license and be available to drive personal vehicle to off-campus locations for courses and special projects. • Must be able to work day, evenings and/or weekends as programs are scheduled and required to meet student learning needs. • Must be able to frequently sit, walk, stand, lift, carry, and balance at times in excess of 125 pounds.
