About the position The Physician Coding Liaison II - Hospitalist serves as the system-wide key contact for service line/specialty specific coding and proactively educates coding/documentation guidelines and/or concepts within a specific specialty. This role collaborates with Chief Medical Officers (CMOs), Senior director administrators, and Production and Department support leaders for problem resolution and/or trends in payer specific rules/coverage. The position is remote and involves educating Physicians, Advanced Practice Clinicians (APCs), Medical Group and Clinic Leadership to improve coding and documentation. The liaison provides service line/specialty specific coding/documentation education and feedback related to coding changes, annual code updates, payer requirements, and payer rejection resolution to assigned Physicians/APCs. Additionally, the role includes conducting orientations for all Physicians/APCs, residents/students, and clinical team members on specialty specific coding and documentation related education. Responsibilities • Serve as the system-wide key contact for service line/specialty specific coding. • Educate coding/documentation guidelines and concepts within a specific specialty. • Collaborate with CMOs and senior administrators for problem resolution. • Educate Physicians and APCs to improve coding and documentation. • Provide coding/documentation education and feedback related to coding changes. • Conduct orientations for Physicians/APCs and clinical team members. • Monitor and resolve charge sessions requiring additional information. • Attend and provide coding and documentation information to meetings. • Develop monthly service line/specialty newsletters for education. • Identify trending data and opportunities to capture revenue through documentation improvement. Requirements • Coding Associate (CCA) certification or equivalent certification from AHIMA or AAPC. • Advanced training beyond High School in Medical Coding Specialist. • Typically requires 5 years of experience in expert-level professional coding. • At least 3 years of experience educating/training licensed clinicians. • Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills. • Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Office and EHR systems. • Ability to work independently and exercise independent judgment. Nice-to-haves • Specialty Medical Coding Certification in the area(s) supported. • Experience with electronic coding and EHR systems.
