Key Responsibilities Provide musical accompaniment for Ballet and Modern Dance classes, using improvisational skills and/or pre-existing music scores to create an engaging and supportive learning environment. Demonstrate a strong understanding of music repertory for dance and various modes of music improvisation to complement the movement and intention of the dance instructor. Use tempo, rhythm, and phrasing to enhance the exercise or sequence, as demonstrated and/or communicated by the dance instructor. Perform other accompanist-related duties as assigned or requested, such as arriving on time to every class, watching dancers, and listening to the instructor. Exhibit behavior that supports the mission, vision, and values of the university, and communicate in a professional, responsible, and accountable manner. Demonstrate a commitment to outstanding customer service and provide a positive and inclusive learning environment for all students. Essential Qualifications Minimum 3 years of experience as a dance accompanist in studio and/or academic settings. Demonstrated knowledge of music repertory for dance and various modes of music improvisation. Strong sight-reading skills and ability to improvise music for Ballet and Modern Dance classes. Ability to arrive on time to every class and demonstrate a high level of reliability and responsibility. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with dance instructors and students. Preferred Qualifications Experience accompanying Ballet classes at various levels, including beginner, intermediate, and advanced. Ability to play percussion and/or other acoustic and electronic instruments in addition to piano. Knowledge of various dance styles and genres, including Ballet, Modern, and Contemporary. Experience working with diverse student populations, including students with varying abilities and needs. Skills and Competencies Strong musicality and ability to improvise music that complements the movement and intention of the dance instructor. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with dance instructors and students. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing circumstances. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think on your feet.
