Job Summary The Customer Service Specialist I role at blithequark is an exciting opportunity for customer-focused individuals to join a leading healthcare provider network. As a Customer Service Specialist I, you will be responsible for handling and resolving incoming phone calls from patients, insurance carriers, and physician offices, providing exceptional customer service and support to ensure a positive experience for all stakeholders. Key Responsibilities Handle a large volume of calls and perform work in a timely manner, ensuring that all customer inquiries and concerns are addressed promptly and professionally. Attempt to collect full payment from patients or guarantors in a professional and courteous manner, establishing payment arrangements per guidelines and documenting terms in the billing system. Apply payments collected over the phone to each date of service, ensuring accurate and efficient processing of transactions. Handle customer inquiries, disputes, and complaints, escalating contentious complaints to supervisors or higher management as needed, and providing clear and concise documentation of all interactions. Obtain and update insurance, demographic, and guarantor information, ensuring that patient profiles are accurate and up-to-date, and billing third-party payers as appropriate. Clearly document in the system a summary of work and follow-up steps after each call, maintaining accurate and detailed records of all customer interactions. Essential Qualifications To be successful in this role, you will need to possess a high school graduate or GED certificate, as well as a minimum of 6 months' experience in a physician billing or third-party payer environment. You should demonstrate an understanding of contracts, insurance benefits, exclusions, and other billing requirements, as well as claim forms, HMOs, PPOs, Medicare, Medicaid, and compliance program regulations. The ability to understand and navigate the payer adjudication process is also essential, along with excellent communication and customer service skills. Preferred Qualifications While not essential, experience with patient financial and practice management systems, such as Epic, and/or other electronic billing systems, is highly desirable. Knowledge of medical terminology is also preferred, along with previous call center/claims experience and experience in an academic healthcare setting.
