Job Overview As a Coding & Charging Specialist, you'll be responsible for reviewing and analyzing medical records to assign accurate diagnoses, procedure codes, and charges for inpatient, outpatient, and professional services. This role requires a strong understanding of coding guidelines, regulations, and classification systems, as well as excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Key Responsibilities Review and analyze medical records to assign accurate diagnoses, procedure codes, and charges in accordance with coding guidelines and regulations. Apply knowledge of ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT/HCPCS, and other coding classification systems to ensure accurate coding and charging. Stay up-to-date with changes in coding guidelines, regulations, and industry standards to maintain expertise and ensure compliance. Collaborate with clinical co-workers to resolve coding and charging issues, and provide guidance on coding and charging best practices. Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance coding and charging accuracy, and reduce denial rates. Maintain a high level of productivity while ensuring accuracy and quality in coding and charging. Qualifications and Requirements Essential Qualifications At least 6 years of experience in coding and/or charging in an acute care or professional service setting. Strong knowledge of Anatomy and Physiology, MS-DRG, APC, or MPFS/RVU payment and facility charging methodologies. A.S. degree from an accredited Nursing or Health Information Management program or associated healthcare discipline, or commensurate clinical experience. Certifications such as RN, RHIT, RHIA, CCS, CPC, CPC-H, or CIRCC. Advanced working knowledge of ICD-10-CM/PCS and/or CPT/HCPCS coding classification systems. Preferred Qualifications Experience with electronic health records (EHRs) and coding software. Knowledge of coding compliance and regulatory requirements. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. Ability to work independently in a remote environment.
