About the Role We're seeking an experienced Cancer Registry Abstractor to work remotely and play a critical role in abstracting and coding medical information from cancer patient records. As a Cancer Registry Abstractor 4, you'll work closely with our team to ensure compliance with guidelines and definitions set by the California Cancer Registry (CCR), Surveillance, Epidemiology and End-Results (SEER), California Cancer Surveillance Program (CSP) of Los Angeles County, and the UCLA Cancer Registry, as well as the Commission on Cancer. Key Responsibilities Abstract and code medical information from cancer patient records in accordance with CCR, SEER, CSP, and UCLA Cancer Registry guidelines and definitions. Ensure accurate and timely data collection, analysis, and reporting to support cancer research and patient care. Maintain expertise in cancer registry operations, including data collection, coding, and quality control. Collaborate with healthcare professionals to resolve data discrepancies and ensure data accuracy. Stay up-to-date with changing regulations, guidelines, and industry standards. Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance data quality and registry operations. Essential Qualifications To succeed in this role, you'll need: A strong background in cancer registry operations, including data collection, coding, and analysis. Proficiency in abstracting and coding medical information using CCR, SEER, and CSP guidelines. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and accuracy. Strong communication and collaboration skills, with ability to work effectively with healthcare professionals. Ability to work independently in a remote environment, with strong organizational and time management skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other software applications as required. Preferred Qualifications While not required, the following qualifications are highly desirable: Previous experience working in a cancer registry or related field. Certification as a Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) or equivalent. Knowledge of cancer surveillance and epidemiology principles. Familiarity with electronic health records (EHRs) and other healthcare information systems.
