As part of this endeavor, we are seeking a talented and dedicated Assistant Professor of Music Theory to join our faculty on a tenure-track basis. About Us Established in 1920, the College of Music at the University of Colorado Boulder is renowned for its academic programs, innovative research, and commitment to artistic expression. With a diverse community of 550 degree-seeking students, 70 full-time faculty members, and 30 part-time faculty, we offer seven degree programs across 28 fields of study, from undergraduate to doctoral levels. Our faculty and students produce over 350 performances annually, alongside numerous guest lectures, masterclasses, and outreach events that enrich the cultural landscape of Boulder and beyond. Key Responsibilities As our ideal candidate, you will be expected to: Maintain an active national/international research profile, contributing to the advancement of music theory and its related fields. Teach two courses per semester, developing and delivering curricula that reflect your expertise and our college's commitment to inclusive excellence. Advise graduate students, providing guidance and mentorship as they pursue their academic and professional goals. Participate on College-wide committees, contributing to the governance and strategic development of our community. Essential and Preferred Qualifications To be considered for this role, you should possess: A completed PhD in Music Theory (ABD applicants will be considered). A strong research profile, with a focus on areas such as music cognition, empirical approaches, theory and analysis of world musics, music theory pedagogy, music, multimedia, and dance, or history of theory. Evidence of teaching excellence, with a commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment. A demonstrated ability to contribute to the college's commitment to inclusive excellence, including experience working with underserved communities or promoting inclusivity in your academic field. Skills and Competencies To succeed in this role, you will need: Expertise in music theory, with a strong understanding of current research and pedagogical practices. Excellent teaching and mentoring skills, with the ability to communicate complex concepts to students at various levels. A commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration, with a willingness to engage with colleagues across the college. Strong research and publication skills, with a track record of peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations.
