About Weber State University and the Department of English Language and Literature Founded in 1889, Weber State University is an open-enrollment institution with a strong reputation for academic excellence. The Department of English Language and Literature is committed to centering diverse identities and experiences among its faculty and curriculum, and is seeking candidates who share this commitment. The department offers a range of undergraduate programs, including literature, creative writing, professional and technical writing, linguistics, and English education, as well as a Master of Arts program. Key Responsibilities Teach undergraduate courses from first-year composition to upper division and graduate courses, with a typical teaching load of four (4) courses per semester. Engage in research and scholarly activities, with a focus on multi-ethnic American literature, including but not limited to Latinx, African American, Asian American and Pacific Islander, and Native American literatures. Provide service to the department, college, and university, demonstrating a commitment to student success and academic excellence. Develop and maintain a productive research agenda, with a potential for an active and productive career as a scholar. Participate in departmental and university-wide initiatives, including those related to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Essential and Preferred Qualifications Required Qualifications: Ph.D. in English/Literature or a related field, including but not limited to American Studies or Ethnic Studies, by July 1, 2024. Evidence of teaching effectiveness at the university level. Preferred Qualifications: Two (2) or more years of teaching experience at the undergraduate level. Experience teaching online and face-to-face. A successful record of scholarly publication and presentation. Demonstrated commitment to global awareness, inclusion, and equity efforts in pedagogical practices and scholarship. Excellent communication, collaboration, and organization skills. Proficiency in teaching online and face-to-face, with a willingness to adapt to new technologies and pedagogies.
