Join the Esteemed Faculty of Information and Library Science at the University of North Carolina The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, School of Information and Library Science (SILS), is seeking an interdisciplinary colleague to join our vibrant community of scholars. We are looking for a talented Teaching Assistant Professor to contribute to our sustained efforts to advance the scholarship and practice of information and library science. This is a unique opportunity to teach and advise students in a top-ranked program, engage in research, and make significant contributions to the field. About the Role As a Teaching Assistant Professor, you will be expected to teach 9 credit hours per semester to graduate and undergraduate students, advise students in the program, and contribute to the School's research and scholarly activities. The successful candidate will have the ability to teach online and residential sections, and a strong passion for education and academic advising. Key Responsibilities: Teach 9 credit hours per semester to graduate and undergraduate students in the School of Information and Library Science Advise students in the program and provide guidance on academic and professional matters Contribute to the School's research and scholarly activities, including publishing research findings and presenting at conferences Develop and implement curriculum and course materials for online and residential sections Participate in departmental and university service, including committee work and outreach activities Essential Qualifications: Earned Master's degree in any relevant discipline (e.g., information science, library science, computer science, education) Experience teaching at the undergraduate or graduate level, with evidence of prior classroom teaching experience or three years of experience in one-on-one instruction or similar consultative situations Fluent in writing and speaking English Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and effectively Preferred Qualifications: PhD in information/library science or a related field Relevant professional experience in information science or a related field Experience with active learning strategies, project-based learning, and other student-centered pedagogies Experience with learning management systems and other educational technologies Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students Experience with relevant programming languages and software tools, such as Python, SQL, R, Tableau, or similar Desirable experience qualifications include expertise in teaching courses related to: System design and analysis Programming Database design and management Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and User Experience (UX) design What We Offer: The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill offers a competitive salary, comprehensive benefits package, and a stimulating work environment.
