Make a Difference in the Lives of Local Students as a Tutor and Mentor The University of Kansas is seeking a dedicated and passionate student to join the Youth Educational Services (YES) Tutoring program as a Student Tutor/Mentor. About the University of Kansas and the YES Tutoring Program The University of Kansas is a public research university committed to providing a world-class education and fostering a culture of innovation, diversity, and inclusivity. The YES Tutoring program is an initiative of the Department of Career & Experiential Learning, designed to provide KU students with the opportunity to work as tutors and mentors in local Lawrence public schools. Our program aims to support the academic success and personal growth of K-12 students while promoting the development of our student tutors. Key Responsibilities Assist teachers in the Lawrence Public Schools (K-12) with tutoring needs, providing individualized support and guidance to students. Work 1 to 4 hour blocks of time, Monday-Friday, between 8 am and 3 pm, with the option to work after school hours from 3-4:30 pm. Develop a strong understanding of the curriculum and learning objectives to effectively support students. Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment, promoting academic success and personal growth. Communicate effectively with teachers, students, and parents to ensure seamless collaboration and support. Essential Qualifications Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5. Be enrolled in a minimum of six credit hours or more at the University of Kansas. Be a sophomore or above in class year at KU. Be a Kansas resident, paying in-state tuition at KU. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience working with children, either through volunteering or paid positions. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds and needs. Skills and Competencies Required for Success Strong dedication to helping youth and making a positive impact.
