As a Special Education Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in assisting teachers to meet the diverse needs of students with disabilities, promoting their academic, social, and emotional growth. Job Summary We are looking for a highly skilled and empathetic Special Education Teaching Assistant to support our elementary school students with diverse needs. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with teachers to design and implement individualized instruction, behavior modification plans, and educational activities that cater to the unique needs of students with disabilities. Key Responsibilities As a Special Education Teaching Assistant at Workwarp, you will be responsible for: * Assisting teachers in providing a balanced program of instruction, giving students opportunities to observe, question, and investigate * Reinforcing information and instructions following lessons * Working with students individually or in small groups in academic studies, basic life skills, and other assigned instruction * Implementing behavior modification plans and procedures designed for individual students when necessary * Maintaining confidentiality regarding students * Maintaining positive relationships with all students, school staff, and parents * Observing and recording students' progress * Assisting individual or groups of students during activities, including recess, lunch, and getting children safely on and off the bus * Assisting with hygiene and toileting activities, which might include transferring and lifting students * Sanitizing classrooms and equipment using approved materials Requirements and Qualifications To be considered for this role, you must: * Possess a current Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) or a current Illinois Substitute Teaching License * Hold a current Illinois Educator License with Stipulations Endorsed-Paraprofessional Educator * Meet the requirements for an Illinois Short-Term Approval (STA) - Paraprofessional, including: + Minimum age of 19 years old + Application in ELIS ($50 application fee) + Proof of high school graduation (copy of diploma, transcript, or GED) * Have an associate's degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution * Have 60 semester hours of coursework from a regionally accredited institution * Score 480 or higher on the ETS Parapro test or 4 or higher on the ACT WorkKeys Applied Math and Workplace Documents Additionally, you must: * Have the ability to work effectively with children * Possess effective interpersonal and communication skills * Have working knowledge of: + Computers and basic programs + Child guidance principles and practices + Behavior management and positive reinforcement + Classroom procedures and appropriate conduct + Basic record-keeping methods Physical Ability and Work Environment As a Special Education Teaching Assistant, you will be required to: * Sit, stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and run regularly * Lift and move up to 100 lbs, such as lifting a child from the floor * Push/pull items up to 80 lbs, such as children in wheelchairs * Work in a remote setting with potential exposure to communicable diseases and contact with blood and other body fluids * Be aware of potential physical injury from aggressive behavior Career Growth Opportunities and Learning Benefits At Workwarp, we are committed to supporting the professional growth and development of our team members.
