Principal Engineer, Technology Enablement

The Principal Engineer, Technology Enablement provides software engineering oversight and strategic direction for all product lines. This role provides technical mentorship for the engineering and leadership teams while driving technology integration, software development standards, and operational excellence across the enterprise. What You'll be doing: Include but are not limited to the following: • Define and enforce engineering standards for system design, testing, and deployment • Provide technical mentorship to VP and engineering teams on SDLC, CI/CD, and DevOps best practices • Act as subject matter expert for critical APIs, programming languages, and provisioning and service technology platforms • Drive technology selection and vendor evaluation processes • Oversee integration of new technologies, systems, and applications into production environments • Design and implement CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment frameworks • Develop and maintain API strategies for product delivery and system integration • Create automation solutions using open-source and commercial platforms • Establish telemetry and monitoring standards using traditional (syslog/SNMP) and modern streaming telemetry protocols (gRPC, NETCONF/YANG) • Integrate with observability platforms and time-series databases (Prometheus, InfluxDB, OpenTelemetry) • Design visualization dashboards and reporting systems for engineering and operations teams • Build automated testing frameworks for software applications and network services • Provide escalation support for critical production issues • Translate business requirements into technical specifications and user stories • Manage deliverables using Agile methodologies (Scrum/Kanban) • Collaborate cross-functionally to develop data analytics and reporting solutions • Make strategic recommendations to engineering, product management, and leadership • Other duties as assigned What YOU need is: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Minimum Required Education and Experience • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience) • 3+ technical certifications in software development or systems administration • 7+ years progressive software development/systems administration experience • 3-5 years cloud ecosystem experience (VMware, OpenStack) Skills and Abilities to be Successful in this Role • Expert-level proficiency in: • Open-source frameworks (LAMP, SMACK) • Visualization platforms (Tableau, Grafana, Kibana) • API frameworks (REST, SOAP/XML, JSON) • Automated testing and deployment technologies • OSI model and network protocols • Technical Skills • Languages: Python, Ruby, JavaScript, PHP, TCL, SQL, Bash/Shell • Platforms: Linux/Unix, Windows, macOS • Tools: Wireshark, Git, CI/CD platforms • Protocols: HTTP/S, SSH, SFTP • Additional Requirements • Exceptional communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences Physical Demands/Working Conditions: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
