Online Acting & Filmmaking Teacher (Part-Time) About Epitome of Soul Epitome of Soul is a nonprofit founded in 2012 to address the lack of arts programming for under-resourced students in low-income communities. We serve the NJ, DE, and AZ communities through educational and arts advocacy, mentorship, and scholarships, developing student leaders through the arts. As we expand our digital reach in 2026, we're seeking passionate storytellers to guide students in bringing their creative visions to life through our virtual classroom. The Role We're looking for an experienced Acting & Filmmaking Teacher to lead our online programs, empowering K-12 students to write, direct, and produce their own original short films. This part-time position requires approximately 8-20 hours per month and offers the flexibility of teaching from anywhere while transforming young storytellers into confident creators. This position reports directly to the Program Director. Responsibilities • Teach engaging online acting and filmmaking classes for K-12 students during our Spring Program and potentially 1-3 classes per week during our Fall Program • Develop comprehensive lesson plans that guide students through the complete filmmaking process—from concept development and scriptwriting to directing, acting, and post-production • Mentor students in creating original short films for end-of-session virtual screenings • Complete student assessments through our online platform • Foster a collaborative virtual environment where every student's voice and vision is valued • Provide constructive feedback on student performances, scripts, and film projects • Participate in biweekly virtual staff meetings • Collaborate with dance and art teachers to create interdisciplinary experiences • Attend approximately 2 professional development sessions per quarter What Makes You a Great Fit Required: • Professional experience in theater, film, or television (acting, directing, or production) • 2+ years of teaching experience at any level • Strong understanding of storytelling fundamentals, character development, and narrative structure • Knowledge of filmmaking basics including shot composition, directing techniques, and editing principles • Proficiency with virtual teaching platforms (Zoom, Google Classroom) and CRM systems • Familiarity with accessible filmmaking tools and techniques students can use remotely • Excellent time management and organizational skills • Passion for youth education and commitment to our mission of equity in arts access Bonus Points: • Video editing software proficiency (iMovie, Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere, etc.) • Screenwriting experience • Prior online teaching experience • Experience guiding student film projects • Bilingual abilities Compensation Commensurate with experience How to Apply Submit the following materials: • Resume and cover letter • Salary requirements • Demo reel or portfolio showcasing your work in acting/filmmaking • Video of you teaching a theater or filmmaking class (virtual or in-person), OR a sample lesson plan for teaching acting/filmmaking online Finalists will be invited to teach a demonstration class online.
