HR Technician I/II - Employee Services Section
The City of Colorado Springs is seeking an HR Technician I/II to join their Human Resources team at the Colorado Springs Police Department. This entry-level position involves providing day-to-day support in payroll operations and Tier I HR services, serving as the first point of contact for employee inquiries, and contributing to a positive employee experience. Responsibilities Assist with end-to-end payroll preparation: query and verify time sheets, leave requests, overtime/shift differentials, and supplemental pay Identify and resolve routine payroll discrepancies; escalate complex issues as appropriate; liaison with City Payroll regarding employee time and payroll inquiries/reconciliation Serve as the initial point of contact for employee inquiries related to benefits, pay, time off, policies, onboarding, and general HR processes Provide clear, consistent responses using approved knowledge articles; route/escalate Tier II/III matters to the appropriate HR team member Monitor, triage, and resolve incoming HR tickets; document actions taken, resolutions, and follow-up Monitor and respond to the CSPD HR email inbox and main phone line; creating support tickets as necessary Provide first-line, high quality customer service to both internal and external customers via phone, email, and walk-ins. This includes answering the HR employee assistance phone line and email box Welcome employees on their first day and complete new hire paperwork Process various employee data items including employee name changes, outside employment memos, and college transcripts/degrees, and VA On-the-Job training certifications and Personnel Action Forms Respond to records requests from internal and external customers including federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies regarding prior and current employees Gather and provide documents for CORA and CCJRA requests Track and maintain legal holds Provide support for promotion ceremonies including drafting promotional write-ups with career highlights for promoted employees Coordinate the Officer of the Month Awards Program and luncheons, distribute Service Awards, and coordinate other special awards by outside agencies Maintain personnel files Skills Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade (high school diploma or GED) At the Tech I level: One year of full-time, professional experience in a related field At the Tech II level: Three years of full-time, professional experience in a related field Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in fast-paced environment Experience with Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel Proficiency in data entry Strong organizational skills Knowledge of modern office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and supporting software Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships Ability to maintain strict confidentiality Ability to work independently Ability to provide excellent customer service to all customers Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills Experience involving extensive interaction with people, Microsoft Office, and HRIS software Knowledge of PeopleSoft and NeoGov Strong attention to detail and data integrity Ability to adapt to changing priorities and be extremely flexible Ability to handle confidential information with discretion Benefits Flexible and hybrid work schedules after an initial training period Additional compensation depending on the position, area of assignment, and specific job assignments, including shift differential, pay differential, acting or lead, special assignment, hazard pay, longevity, cell phone allowance, uniform allowance, relocation, awards, standby, call out, compensatory time off, tuition, overtime, extra duty, incentive, holiday premium, proficiency, and vacation sell back Comprehensive and competitive benefits program to meet the needs of our employees and their families Company Overview Colorado Springs renders public safety, transportation, sports, strategic planning, public meetings, and economic development services.
