Franchise Operations Manual Writer & SOP Documentation Specialist
Project Overview All Dogs Unleashed is a fast-growing dog training and boarding company currently expanding our franchise operations across the U.S. As we grow, we need to update our Franchise Operations Manual to accurately reflect our current systems, SOPs, and brand standards. Our existing franchise manual was professionally written 4–5 years ago. It is comprehensive (215 pages, ~60,274 words) but now outdated. We are looking for an experienced technical writer who specializes in franchise documentation, SOP development, and operations manuals to update, refine, expand, and re-align the manual with our current FDD and internal SOPs. What is the FDD? The Franchise Disclosure Document (FDD) is a federally required legal document that outlines essential information for franchisees — including obligations, fees, territory details, trademarks, operational requirements, and system standards. The Operations Manual must support and align with the directives in the FDD, so familiarity with franchise documentation is highly valued. ⸻ What We Need We already have a designer who will handle formatting, layout, and visuals. This project is strictly focused on the content. You will be responsible for: • Reviewing the current Franchise Operations Manual in full • Updating outdated content to reflect current practices • Expanding sections that need more detail • Adding new content where gaps exist • Ensuring all content aligns with our current FDD and SOPs • Editing for clarity, tone, consistency, and professionalism • Reorganizing or restructuring sections where appropriate • Rewriting content where needed for accuracy or readability • Identifying missing operational standards and recommending additions ⸻ Final Deliverables The final required deliverable is: ✔ A complete Microsoft Word document containing the fully updated operations manual — content only, no visuals or design formatting. The Word document should include: • All updated, expanded, and newly written content • A clear and logical structure • Section headings, subheadings, and internal organization • Clean copy ready for our designer to place into the branded layout The output must be editable, well-organized, and prepared for integration into the final designed manual. ⸻ What We Will Provide You will receive: • The current Franchise Operations Manual • Our current FDD • All SOPs, checklists, workflows, policies, and supporting documents • Access to leadership (myself) for clarification and direction throughout the project This is a collaborative project — I will be available for questions and guidance. ⸻ Ideal Candidate The ideal fit has: • Expert-level experience writing or editing franchise manuals, SOPs, or large operational documents • Knowledge of how a manual must align with an FDD • Strong technical writing and organizational skills • Excellent U.S. English writing and editing abilities • Experience with service-based or multi-location brands (preferred) • Ability to work independently while maintaining communication ⸻ Scope & Timeline • Estimated project size: Medium to Large • Timeframe: 1–3 months • Approximately 215 pages of content to review, update, expand, and align This will be a fixed-price project with milestones created collaboratively. ⸻ Working Style We value: • Clear communication • Timely updates • Attention to detail • Professionalism • Ability to follow structured guidelines ⸻ If You’re Interested Please submit: • Samples of similar work (operations manuals, SOPs, franchise documentation) • A brief description of your experience • Any initial questions you have We’re excited to find the right partner to help elevate our franchise documentation as we continue expanding.
