Fractional CFO / Growth-Stage Finance Advisor
Davis Tech Pro is a founder-led consulting firm delivering secure internal systems, automation platforms, and operational infrastructure for regulated SMBs (healthcare, professional services, gov-adjacent). We are currently operating in the 5 figure rang and scaling deliberately toward six figures/month (7 figures annually). We are seeking a senior fractional CFO / finance advisor to support disciplined growth, margin management, tax-aware decision making, and hiring strategy during this formative stage. This is a strategic advisory role, not an operational accounting or tax-filing position. ⸻ What We’re Looking For We’re looking for a growth-stage financial operator who has helped services-based businesses scale through early and mid growth phases and understands the realities of: • Founder-led decision making • Project-based and retainer revenue • Uneven cash flow during growth • Contractor-heavy delivery models • Hiring timing and margin tradeoffs • Tax-aware financial decision making This role works directly with the owner and is intended to provide clear, practical financial guidance as the business scales. ⸻ Key Experience Requirements Strong candidates will meet most of the following criteria: 1. Experience Scaling Early-Stage Services Businesses We are particularly interested in candidates who have helped services-based businesses scale through formative growth stages, such as: • Startup → $500K–$1M annually • ~5×–10× growth from an early revenue base Absolute company size matters less than hands-on experience navigating early growth, including: • First hires or subcontractors • Margin volatility • Cash-flow management during growth • Founder transition from execution to delegation ⸻ 2. Deep Understanding of Project + Retainer Models You are comfortable advising on: • Project-based revenue recognition • Milestone billing • Backlog vs cash-in • Retainers vs one-time builds • Gross margin at the project and client level ⸻ 3. Operational, Not Just Accounting-Focused You can: • Set and evaluate margin targets • Advise on when to hire vs wait • Model capacity and headcount scenarios • Build simple, actionable forecasts • Support real business decisions, not just reporting ⸻ 4. Founder-Facing Experience You have worked directly with founders and are comfortable: • Operating in fast-moving environments • Giving direct, practical guidance • Working without heavy corporate structure ⸻ 5. Light-Touch Advisory Engagement You can deliver high-leverage insight with a 2–4 hour/month commitment, primarily async, with occasional short check-ins. ⸻ 6. Tax-Aware Financial Guidance (Non-Filing) You understand how early-stage financial decisions impact tax exposure and can: • Advise on tax-efficient decision making (planning, not filing) • Flag decisions with tax implications before they’re made • Identify common planning opportunities and missed write-offs • Guide when and how to involve a CPA or tax specialist for execution You are not expected to prepare or file taxes, but should be comfortable designing financial decisions with tax efficiency in mind. ⸻ Responsibilities Monthly • Review P&L and cash flow • Monitor gross margins at the project and client level • Advise on hiring and capacity timing (consultants vs in-house) • Flag financial risk early and pressure-test growth decisions ⸻ Early-Stage Advisory (Strategic, Not Operational) • Provide guidance on setting up a clean, scalable financial foundation, including: • Business banking structure (operating account, tax reserves, etc.) • Cash-management and buffer targets • Credit readiness and responsible use of leverage • Advise on early-stage financial decisions to support sustainable growth and margin protection • Help establish financial guardrails appropriate for a growing services firm ⸻ Quarterly • Update financial and capacity models • Stress-test cash-flow scenarios • Adjust growth assumptions as the business scales ⸻ Background & Credentials Relevant backgrounds include: • Fractional CFO • CFO Advisor • Finance Director (fractional) • Senior Controller with growth-stage experience CPA, CFA, or MBA are nice-to-have, not required. Experience supporting early-stage scaling and decision-making matters more than credentials. ⸻ Engagement Structure • Estimated time commitment: 2–4 hours per month • Open to hourly or retainer-based advisory structures • Candidates should propose their typical engagement model and pricing We are comfortable paying market rates for senior-level, growth-stage financial advisory support. ⸻ How to Apply Please include: 1. A brief summary of your background 2. Examples of services businesses you’ve supported through early growth (starting point → outcome) 3. Your experience with project-based and retainer revenue models 4. How you typically structure fractional CFO engagements 5. Examples of how you’ve helped founders make tax-efficient financial decisions (planning-level, no confidential details) Concise, direct responses preferred. Apply tot his job
