The US Global Business Council (UGBC) is a U.S.-based, non-profit institution advancing economic diplomacy, global trade, and institutional collaboration between the United States and international markets. To ensure disciplined execution and delivery excellence of the US Global Innovation & Trade Expo 2026 (Detroit), UGBC is appointing a Volunteer Expo Strategy & Delivery Consultant to advise senior leadership on planning, governance, and operational readiness. This is a consultative, oversight-focused role supporting the Managing Director and Executive Leadership, with a mandate to safeguard outcomes, mitigate risk, and ensure delivery standards are met. Role Scope: Expo Strategy & Delivery Consultant (Senior Advisory / Non-Operational) Core Responsibilities • Work directly with the Managing Director to: • Design the Expo master blueprint (phases, milestones, dependencies) • Validate assumptions, timelines, and resource plans • Review and evaluate: • Operational structures • Vendor and contractor readiness • Sales, sponsorship, and exhibitor workflows • Identify execution risks and gaps across: • Programming • Logistics • Commercial readiness • Stakeholder coordination • Recommend course corrections and optimization strategies • Establish delivery dashboards and readiness checkpoints • Support decision-making with fact-based assessments, not opinions • Ensure alignment with: • UGBC governance standards • Non-profit compliance • International event best practices This role does not execute day-to-day operations and carries no line management authority. Advisory Effectiveness Indicators • Expo delivery roadmap finalized and approved • Clear go/no-go checkpoints established • Reduced execution risk through early issue identification • Leadership decisions supported by structured, actionable insight • On-time readiness across key Expo milestones What Success Looks Like? • A coherent, disciplined Expo execution blueprint • Fewer last-minute surprises or escalation crises • Management operates with clarity and confidence • Expo 2026 delivered to international standards • A reusable delivery model for future UGBC expos Ideal Candidate Profile • Prior senior experience in: • Large-scale expos • Trade shows • International conferences • Multi-stakeholder events • Proven background in: • Event planning frameworks • Risk management • Delivery governance • Comfortable challenging assumptions constructively • Trusted advisor to executive or board-level leadership • High integrity, independence, and professional discipline Advancement & Engagement Path • Formal UGBC Senior Advisory designation • Volunteer consultancy appointment with defined scope • Opportunity for: • Retained advisory role • Paid consultancy engagement • Executive delivery role (subject to performance and needs) Progression is based on demonstrated value, judgment, and delivery impact.
