Role Overview As a Staff Machine Learning Engineer, Search Query Understanding, you will be responsible for researching, proposing, and leading innovative language modeling techniques to further language understanding capabilities. You will have the chance to create and evaluate new algorithms, models, and methods that will impact our company and the broad ML community. Your role will involve building novel applications of Large Language Models (LLMs) to various search problems, developing a long-term technical vision, and proposing a roadmap for the team. You will also collaborate with various product teams across the company, partner with them to apply language understanding models to new product areas and use cases, and work on continuously improving the metrics and performance of models the team has launched in production by leveraging innovative ML techniques. Key Responsibilities Researching, proposing, and leading innovative language modeling techniques to further language understanding capabilities Building novel applications of LLMs to various search problems Developing a long-term technical vision and proposing a roadmap for the team Collaborating with various product teams across the company and partnering with them to apply language understanding models to new product areas and use cases Working on continuously improving the metrics and performance of models the team has launched in production by leveraging innovative ML techniques Analyzing the loss patterns in the current search and assistant stack and coming up with new ideas, algorithms, and techniques to resolve those losses with the goal of improving the top-line product metrics Essential Qualifications To be successful in this role, you will need to have: 7+ years of experience in Machine Learning, NLP, Large Language Models, and applying these techniques at scale 3+ years of experience in a technical leadership role, overseeing technically complex projects, and people management, scaling, and growing technical teams Strong software engineering skills in a mainstream programming language, such as Python, Go, C/C++ Strong communication skills Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent industry work experience Preferred Qualifications In addition to the essential qualifications, we are looking for candidates with: Familiarity with NLP/ML tools and packages like Jax, TensorFlow, pyTorch, etc. Practical experience building production-quality applications related to natural language processing and machine learning In-depth knowledge of machine learning algorithms and the ability to apply them in data-driven natural language processing systems Ability to quickly prototype ideas/solutions, perform critical analysis, and use creative approaches for solving complex problems Ability to collaborate closely with multi-functional teams Advanced degree in a related field or equivalent industry work experience Skills and Competencies To excel in this role, you will need to possess: Strong technical leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex problems and develop innovative solutions Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with multiple priorities and deadlines Strong attention to detail, with a focus on delivering high-quality results Career Growth Opportunities and Learning Benefits At Workwarp, we are committed to the growth and development of our employees.
