About the Role Walmart International, comprising over 5,200 retail units across 23 countries, is seeking a highly skilled Staff Data Scientist to spearhead the development of backend ML models that power AI-driven ad solutions. This role is not just about developing cutting-edge technology; it's about collaborating with product and engineering leaders to create more personalized and effective member experiences. You'll oversee the entire project lifecycle, from data analysis and model development to prototyping and implementation, ensuring seamless communication with all stakeholders. Key Responsibilities Spearhead the development of sophisticated backend ML models that drive AI-powered ad solutions, enhancing member interactions and personalization. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product and engineering leaders, to pioneer innovations in ad technology through deep insights, analytics, and ML prototypes. Oversee the project lifecycle, ensuring smooth data analysis, model development, prototyping, and implementation, while maintaining effective communication with stakeholders. Establish and lead the implementation of an MLOps framework to facilitate the ongoing enhancement, testing, and deployment of algorithms, optimizing ad personalization and effectiveness. Utilize advanced skills in developing and deploying large-scale ML models, focusing on ad targeting, relevance, and optimization. Leverage public cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, Google Cloud) to deploy scalable ML solutions efficiently. Apply proficiency in programming languages (Python, Java, Scala) and ML frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-Learn), underpinned by a solid grasp of MLOps practices. Essential Qualifications To excel in this role, you'll need: Advanced skills in the development and deployment of large-scale ML models, with a focus on ad targeting, relevance, and optimization. Experience with public cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, Google Cloud) for deploying scalable ML solutions. Proficiency in programming languages (Python, Java, Scala) and ML frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-Learn), along with a solid understanding of MLOps practices. Agile project management capabilities, with adept use of tools like JIRA. A driven problem-solver with a passion for impacting the retail sector at scale. 8+ years of experience in a similar domain or tech stack. Background in digital advertising, marketing personalization, recommendation algorithms, or similar fields. You can qualify for this role through: Option 1: Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, and 4 years of experience in an analytics-related field. Option 2: Master's degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, and 2 years of experience in an analytics-related field. Option 3: 6 years of experience in an analytics or related field. Preferred Qualifications While not mandatory, the following qualifications can significantly enhance your candidacy: Data science, machine learning, and optimization models expertise. PhD in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Information Technology, Operations Research, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or Econometrics. Successful completion of assessments in Python, Spark, Scala, or R. Experience with open-source frameworks like scikit-learn, TensorFlow, and PyTorch. Knowledge of accessibility best practices and experience with implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards.
