Key Responsibilities: Provide expert sign language interpretation and communication facilitation services to students, teachers, and staff in various educational settings, including classrooms, meetings, and events. Collaborate with teachers and other support staff to develop and implement individualized communication plans that meet the unique needs of students with hearing impairments or communication challenges. Interpret and transliterate for students in real-time, ensuring that they have equal access to educational content, activities, and services. Provide support and training to teachers and staff on effective communication strategies and techniques for working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing. Participate in staff development activities and training sessions to stay current on best practices in sign language interpretation and communication facilitation. Maintain accurate records of interpretation and transliteration services provided, including logs of services rendered and communication plans developed. Requirements: Essential Qualifications: Be a qualified sign language interpreter or qualified transliterator under the Sign Language Interpreter and Transliterator Registration Act (63 P.S. § § 1725.1-1725.12) and its implementing regulations. Provide evidence of a minimum of 20 hours of staff development activities relating to interpreting or transliterating services annually. Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, teachers, and staff. Be able to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to providing high-quality services. Have a strong understanding of educational settings and the needs of students with hearing impairments or communication challenges. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in a related field, such as education, communication disorders, or American Sign Language (ASL). Experience working in educational settings, preferably with students who are deaf or hard of hearing. Certification in ASL or sign language interpretation, such as the Certified Deaf Interpreter (CDI) or the Certified Hearing Interpreter (CHI). Experience with communication facilitation and transliteration services. Skills and Competencies: Excellent sign language interpretation and communication facilitation skills, with the ability to interpret and transliterate in real-time. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, teachers, and staff. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to providing high-quality services. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to adapt to changing situations and priorities. Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities.
