Job Overview We are seeking a skilled and empathetic 988 Chat/Text Crisis Specialist to join our team on a part-time basis. As a member of our 24/7/365 mental health crisis and suicide prevention team, you will provide critical support to those in need, conducting brief clinical screenings, risk assessments, and connecting individuals with essential community resources. Key Responsibilities Provide telephonic or chat clinical screenings and risk assessments to individuals in crisis, ensuring timely and effective support. Respond to incoming chat/text messages via the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (NSPL), also known as 988, with empathy, understanding, and professional expertise. Conduct follow-up calls for individuals deemed moderate to high risk for suicide, ensuring their safety and well-being. Meet the highest ethical and clinical standards, adhering to all relevant accreditation and regulatory requirements. Actively participate in ongoing supervision, training, and team meetings to enhance skills, knowledge, and best practices. Assist with administrative tasks as needed, contributing to the smooth operation of our crisis support services. Essential Qualifications To excel in this role, you will need: A Bachelor's degree in Behavioral Science, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field, or certification as a Peer Recovery Specialist. Six months to one year of related crisis experience, preferably in a mental health or social services setting. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively engage with individuals in crisis via chat, text, and phone. Demonstrated knowledge and competency in providing service linkage and referrals for programs, services, and community resources. Strong understanding of suicide assessments and crisis intervention techniques. Preferred Qualifications While not essential, the following qualifications are highly desirable: Experience working in a trauma-informed care environment, with a deep understanding of the principles and practices that underpin this approach. Familiarity with the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (NSPL) and 988 services, as well as other crisis support systems. Knowledge of local community resources, services, and support networks, with the ability to connect individuals with relevant assistance.
