As a tutor, you will play a vital role in supporting the academic success of student veterans, providing individualized guidance and mentorship in various subjects, including STAT 200, CHEM 110, 111, 112, ACCT 211, ECON 102, 104, 106, or MATH through 140 or 141. Job Summary and Responsibilities As a Part-Time Student Veteran Tutor, you will be responsible for providing academic support to student veterans, creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment, and fostering a sense of community among students. Your key responsibilities will include: Providing individualized tutoring and academic support to student veterans in assigned subjects Developing and implementing effective tutoring strategies to meet the diverse needs of students Creating a welcoming and inclusive learning environment that promotes academic success and student engagement Collaborating with faculty, staff, and other tutors to ensure a comprehensive support system for student veterans Participating in training and professional development opportunities to enhance tutoring skills and knowledge Maintaining accurate records of tutoring sessions and student progress Communicating effectively with students, faculty, and staff to ensure seamless support services Essential Qualifications and Requirements To be considered for this exciting opportunity, you must: Be a current Penn State student (undergraduate or graduate) or a student veteran Have achieved an A in the course you are applying to tutor or demonstrate evidence of having sufficient knowledge and skills to assist students enrolled in these courses Be available to work a minimum of 10 hours per week, with a maximum of 20 hours per week Be able to commit to tutoring for at least one academic semester Have excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills Be able to work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds and with varying learning styles Preferred Qualifications and Requirements While not required, the following qualifications are preferred: Previous tutoring or teaching experience, particularly with student veterans Knowledge of adult learning theory, educational psychology, and counseling principles Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and with varying learning styles Strong organizational, time management, and record-keeping skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team Skills and Competencies Required for Success To excel in this role, you must possess: Strong subject matter expertise in the assigned courses Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills Ability to work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds and with varying learning styles Strong organizational, time management, and record-keeping skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion Career Growth Opportunities and Learning Benefits As a Part-Time Student Veteran Tutor, you will have access to a range of career growth opportunities and learning benefits, including: Professional development opportunities to enhance tutoring skills and knowledge Networking opportunities with faculty, staff, and other tutors Opportunities to develop leadership and management skills Access to university resources and facilities Competitive hourly rate ($11.50/hr for undergraduate tutors and $14.50/hr for graduate tutors) Work Environment and Company Culture Penn State University is committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive work environment that values diversity, equity, and inclusion.
