Job Overview The Lead Automation Engineer role is a critical position that requires a strong and diverse skillset to drive success in software development and quality assurance. As a Lead Automation Engineer, you will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of standards and processes for automation frameworks, developing test scripts, and ensuring the health of automation across various domains, products, or projects. This role involves working closely with cross-functional team members to understand the business and architecture of the system, ensuring automation at every interface. You will also lead the effort to research, design, document, and modify software automation frameworks throughout the development life cycle, maximizing the value delivered to customers and stakeholders. Key Responsibilities Lead the development of testing frameworks and automation strategies, advocating for agile testing practices and implementing best practices in our software environment. Review specifications for testability, highlighting and proposing design considerations that will make features easier to test via automation, while expanding coverage and improving product quality. Evangelize automation and assist other automation engineer team members through mentorship, coaching, tutorials, and writing scripts to speed up their testing efforts. Develop source code and execute automated test cases and QA processes that ensure quality throughout our release schedule. Execute automation test strategies that promote the best automation approach and develop toolsets to reduce or eliminate manual test efforts for all products or projects. Understand and contribute to the implementation of processes for Test Management and Reporting for Automated Suites. Drive continuous integration, recommending approaches and technology infrastructure and tools. Interface with the development team to ensure sufficient test coverage upstream in unit testing in support of TDD best practices. Provide tasks, milestones, and clear direction to automation engineers, estimating work effort for releases and features, monitoring task completion and milestone achievement, and helping to define how success will be measured. Set and communicate clear standards and expectations for technical and work performance, proactively seeking progress updates from team members and assisting them in overcoming challenges to achieve results. Essential Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent work experience. 7+ years of experience in quality assurance/development, with a strong background in software test methodologies, including white box, black box, functional, unit, feature, regression, integration, performance, and scalability testing. Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment, with knowledge of database, cloud, and web technologies. Comprehensive understanding of software development life cycles and methodologies, with experience in automating test cases for cloud, web-based, or desktop applications. Experience with modern programming languages, source code management systems, and testing and automating secure REST APIs and mobile apps. Experience in multi-browser and cross-platform testing, with knowledge of integrating with release/build pipelines. Preferred Qualifications Experience with product planning and developing business cases and return on investment analyses. Proven experience as a software engineer or test automation engineer in a product development environment. Software as a medical device and/or dental industry experience is a plus.
