The Opportunity: Financial Analyst - Planning and Analysis The Global Merchant and Network Services (GM&NS) Pricing team is responsible for the largest source of American Express' revenue: Merchant Discount Revenue. As a Financial Analyst of Planning and Analysis for the Canadian region, you'll play a critical role in determining and reporting merchant discount revenue. This is a unique opportunity to influence multiple businesses and segments by aligning the association's objective for profitable charge volume and merchant development, essential for the health of our business. Key Responsibilities: Create a Canada figure for merchant discount income, tracking month-to-month performance against forecast and identifying drivers of change. Develop vendor discount income scorecards for the Canada region. Drive normalization and process improvement among the different local pricing groups for all reporting and determining related activities. Support external reviews, including investigating issues found, reaching out to regional pricing groups that manage merchant relationships to discuss issues, and managing resolutions. Perform ad-hoc data analysis to assess discount rate trends and uncover insights. Requirements and Qualifications Essential Qualifications: 2 years of experience in financial services or payments industry, or other financial roles. Four-year college education required, with a strong preference for finance, accounting, or business. High proficiency with Excel is required. Strong attention to detail and organization. Excellent analytical skills, with a demonstrated ability to develop complex financial models and draw value-added insights from large amounts of financial data. Knowledge of programming languages (e.g., SAS/SQL) is required. Excellent communication skills - both written and oral. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in managing multiple requests and prioritizing as needed. Strong relationship management and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence others in situations where there may be competing objectives. A strong work ethic with an extreme will-to-win, ability to succeed in a fast-paced, dynamic team environment, which puts an exceptional emphasis on driving results.
