About the Role We are seeking experienced Chatino Interpreters to join our network of freelance interpreters. As a Chatino Interpreter at blithequark, you will have the opportunity to work independently as a 1099 Independent Contractor, setting your own schedule and accepting appointments that fit your availability. Key Responsibilities Provide high-quality interpretation services in Chatino and English, ensuring that all parties can communicate effectively. Work independently and as part of a team to deliver language access services in various settings, including medical, legal, and educational environments. Demonstrate professionalism, punctuality, and adaptability in all work environments, adhering to the highest standards of ethical conduct and confidentiality. Utilize strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to navigate complex situations and provide accurate interpretations. Operate basic communication equipment and technology as required for interpretation assignments. Show flexibility and willingness to work in different settings and adapt to various work environments, including on-site and remote interpretations. Requirements for Success To qualify as a Chatino Interpreter at blithequark, you must meet the following essential requirements: Fluency in English and Chatino: You must have a comprehensive understanding of idiomatic speech, cultural patterns, and nuances in both languages. Previous Interpreting Experience: Preferably in medical, legal, or educational settings, although experience in other fields will be considered. Professionalism and Adaptability: Demonstrated ability to work independently, as part of a team, and adapt to different work environments and situations. Communication and Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to communicate effectively in a fast-paced environment. Location and Authorization: You must be located in and authorized to work in the US. Unfortunately, we do not offer visa sponsorship. Education and Certification: A High School Diploma or equivalent is required; certification in interpreting or related fields is highly desirable. Preferred Qualifications While not mandatory, the following qualifications are highly preferred and will be considered an asset in your application: Advanced certification in interpretation, such as Certified Interpreter (CI) or Certified Healthcare Interpreter (CHI). Experience working with diverse populations and understanding of cultural sensitivities. Familiarity with technology used in interpretation, such as video remote interpreting (VRI) platforms.
