Job Overview We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Academic Tutor to join our team in supporting the academic success of our students. As an Academic Tutor, you will play a vital role in providing individualized and group tutoring services to students in various subjects, including Developmental Reading, Writing, English, Math, and English as a Second Language. This is a grant-funded position through August 31, 2025, offering a unique opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of our students. Key Responsibilities Provide academic tutoring to project participants, focusing on note-taking, study skills, and review of online content, including syllabi and other course materials Offer in-class or in-laboratory assistance to support student learning and academic success Utilize our fully integrated computerized information system (Ellucian) to maintain accurate and efficient records of tutoring sessions and student progress Deliver exceptional customer service to program participants, ensuring a supportive and inclusive learning environment Maintain accurate and efficient tutoring files and grant records, adhering to institutional policies and procedures Participate in tutor training meetings and staff development sessions to enhance your skills and knowledge Prepare correspondence, program information, and services related to hospitality, as required Perform other related duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of the program Essential Qualifications High School diploma and four to five years of related experience or required course work/certification and/or specialized skills/training Alternatively, a combination of education and related experience for a total of four to five years High School diploma and completion of at least 30 credit hours at the collegiate level with an overall average of 'B' or better (or GPA of 3.0 on a 4-point scale) in major courses Earned a grade of 'A' in specific courses to serve as a tutor Experience as a tutor or prior transferable experience preferred Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's Degree or higher from an accredited college/university Specialized training or certification in tutoring, academic support, or a related field Experience working with diverse student populations, including students with disabilities Strong knowledge of developmental education, including reading, writing, and math Familiarity with Ellucian or similar student information systems Skills and Competencies Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to collaboration and teamwork Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to think critically and creatively Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite, with the ability to learn new software and technologies Career Growth Opportunities and Learning Benefits As an Academic Tutor at Prince George's Community College, you will have access to a range of career growth opportunities and learning benefits, including: Professional development workshops and training sessions to enhance your skills and knowledge Opportunities for advancement within the college, including leadership roles and specialized positions A supportive and inclusive work environment that values diversity, equity, and inclusion Access to a range of employee benefits, including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off A dynamic and stimulating work environment that is committed to academic excellence and student success Work Environment and Company Culture Prince George's Community College is committed to creating a positive and inclusive work environment that values diversity, equity, and inclusion.
