Key Responsibilities Prepare, instruct, and grade all class coursework, ensuring that students receive a high-quality learning experience Assign final grades and maintain accurate records of student progress and performance Assist students with grade issues, answer questions, and maintain regular communication to ensure student success Develop and implement innovative teaching strategies to engage students and promote academic excellence Maintain regularly scheduled office hours to meet with students and provide individualized support Participate in department, division, and general adjunct faculty meetings to contribute to the development of our English curriculum Complete other duties and responsibilities as assigned to support the mission and goals of the college Essential Qualifications Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution in English, or a Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution with a minimum of eighteen (18) graduate hours in English Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to convey complex concepts and ideas in a clear and concise manner Proven teaching skills, with the ability to recognize and respond to students from culturally diverse backgrounds and make students active partners in the teaching/learning process Computer literacy and experience using computers in the classroom, with a willingness to apply technology and innovative approaches to the teaching of English Preferred Qualifications Doctorate from a regionally accredited institution in English, with a strong research background and a passion for academic excellence Two to five years of teaching experience in a post-secondary institution, with a proven track record of student success and academic achievement Experience with online teaching and learning platforms, with the ability to develop and implement innovative online courses and programs Knowledge of the Southern Association for Colleges and Schools (SACS) accreditation standards and requirements Skills and Competencies Strong knowledge of English literature, language, and composition, with the ability to teach a range of courses and topics Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to collaboration and teamwork Strong technical skills, with the ability to use a range of software and hardware applications, including learning management systems and online teaching platforms Career Growth Opportunities and Learning Benefits At Indian River State College, we are committed to providing our employees with opportunities for career growth and professional development.
