Location Winston College of Law Library Open Date Jul 17, 2025 Description Under the leadership of the Head of Research and Instructional Services, the Emerging Technologies & Research Librarian/Assistant Professor will join the library’s efforts to identify and integrate emerging technologies into the core teaching and research missions of the library and the College. This librarian will also participate in expanding and improving reference and research services offered to a broad array of patrons. This is a full‑time, tenure‑track law library faculty position with teaching, service, and publication responsibilities. Anticipated start date of January 1, 2026. Responsibilities • Evaluate new artificial intelligence and legal technology products and services, recommend adoption of products and services, and serve as a resource for faculty, students, and staff. • Collaborate in the programming and instruction on artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies in the practice of law. • Provide reference and research support to law faculty, students, and staff, as well as to the larger university, the legal profession, and the community. • Teach legal research through research courses, guest lectures, workshops, and creation of online learning resources in collaboration with the other law library faculty. • Serve as a legal information liaison to law faculty, administrators, and committees with the other law library faculty. • Collaborate with other law library faculty to plan and conduct outreach initiatives that facilitate and enrich the use of law library resources. • Participate in faculty governance and administration in the Law Library, the College of Law, and the University of Tennessee. • Engage in scholarship, service, and professional activities at the local, regional, and national levels. • Other responsibilities as assigned. Compensation $80,000 - $82,000 Qualifications Required Qualifications • A Juris Doctorate (.J.D.) degree from an ABA‑accredited law school at time of appointment. • A master’s degree in information sciences or equivalent from an A.L.A.‑accredited library school, enrollment in such a program, or commitment to doing so at the University of Tennessee School of Information Sciences once eligible for tuition remission. • Demonstrated interest in artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies. • Proficiency with online legal research. • An aptitude for and interest in working in a collaborative environment. • Excellent written and oral communication skills. • A commitment to distinction and achievement in scholarship and service. Preferred Qualifications • Experience working in a law library. • Record of scholarship or professional service relevant to law librarianship. • Teaching experience. • Law practice experience. Schedule Eligible for a hybrid work schedule with one work-from-home day possible depending on the academic calendar, departmental needs, and other factors.
