About the position The Designer, Fabric, RL Home position at Ralph Lauren Corporation involves creating collections from concept through finished product, including clear technical specifications for overseas vendors. The role requires sourcing exclusive designs from overseas mills and reinterpreting them to fit the brand's identity. Designers will create original designs and reinterpret artwork from Ralph Lauren's archive, conduct in-depth research across both Fabric and Wallcovering categories, and build and maintain Ralph Lauren's Fabric and Wallcovering design archive. The position also entails ensuring calendar adherence throughout the development process, partnering with external global vendors, and taking initiative for new fabric and wallcovering concepts. Designers will execute color work on complete multicolored patterns, create design presentations for senior management, and work closely with other designers to create cohesive seasonal collections. The role requires attendance at fabric trade shows and overseeing wallpaper category production at mills overseas, with up to 20% domestic and international travel required. Part-time telecommuting is permitted, with a requirement to come into the office 8-10 days per month. Responsibilities • Create collections from concept through finished product including clear technical specs for overseas vendors. • Source exclusive designs from overseas mills and reinterpret them to fit the brand's identity. • Create original designs and/or reinterpret artwork from RL's archive. • Conduct in-depth research across both Fabric and Wallcovering categories. • Build and maintain Ralph Lauren's Fabric and Wallcovering design archive. • Ensure calendar adherence throughout the entire development process. • Partner with external global vendors to execute development ideas. • Take initiative for new fabric and wallcovering concepts. • Execute color work on complete multicolored patterns for fabric and wallcovering. • Create design presentations for Senior Brand Creative Director and Licensee partners. • Work closely with Design lead and other designers to create a cohesive seasonal collection. • Research new innovative fabrication ideas/concepts. • Collaborate with cross-functional partners including merchandising and Licensee. • Attend fabric trade shows, domestic and international. • Oversee Wallpaper category production at mills overseas. • Promote traditional designs and build relationships with artisans in countries such as Mexico. Requirements • Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Fashion Design/Textile Design or a related field. • Three (3) years of experience in the position offered or related. • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite skills in Photoshop and Illustrator. • Technical experience in fabric, including construction, materials, prints, and sew specs. • Creating original artwork through workable CAD files, including repeats, color separations, and color ways. • Art & Color direction including understanding and interpreting brand identity through a strong sense of color. • Knowledge of interiors and apparel trends. • Experience working with historic textiles and wallcoverings.
