Therefore, employees and volunteers of Young Life, during working and nonworking hours, shall: (i) be ready, willing and able to fulfill such ministry functions as may be required by the organization; (ii) refrain from conduct and statements that detract from the biblical standards taught and supported by Young Life, and (iii) abide by all policies and practices of Young Life including, without limitation, those related to religious belief or ministry activities. Job Specific Working Conditions: This position is a global role and will require someone with a minimum of five years of experience working in the disability community, bringing a well-developed sense of empathy, patience, and behavioral awareness. This role will require someone with the ability to work in a highly matrixes environment with demonstrated ability to lead others without direct supervisory authority, influencing through trust, clear communication, and strong collaboration. This role will have a fundraising expectation of approximately $100,000. Note: The anticipated salary for this position can range from $73,900-$100,990 depending on relevant education, experience, and location. Capernaum Initiatives Coordinator Summary: The Capernaum initiatives coordinator will partner with the Capernaum leadership team to develop and sustain staff and volunteer leaders of varying abilities to serve within the mission. Ministry Functions: Spiritual Development– “Following Jesus.” Includes: Prayer and spiritual disciplines, fellowship, growth and health and church relationships. Maintain a genuine and sincere commitment to understanding God’s Word and the disciplines of personal and corporate prayer. Seek out and maintain relationships and disciplines, in the context of active participation in a church community, that lead to a vibrant spiritual life. Actively participate in the spiritual life of the Young Life and Capernaum community. Lead teams and individuals in spiritual development. Develop a yearly personal growth plan that fosters a vibrant spiritual life including time for solitude, retreat, reflection, prayer and Scripture reading. Leadership Development – Equipping leaders, committee and staff.” Includes: Recruiting, developing, team building, training, and vision casting. Work in partnership with the Capernaum leadership team to create a pipeline of staff trained to lead Capernaum. Develop and implement training for individuals with disabilities to serve within the mission. Partner with regional directors and area directors in developing strategic and sustainable plans for Capernaum to begin and encourage new ministry. Partner with regional and area directors to recruit and train potential Capernaum staff to lead diverse teams. Encourage collaboration with the greater mission of Young Life; including YL College. Equip staff with resources and timely training and educate staff and volunteers in how to serve alongside people with a variety of gifts and abilities. Actively participate and lead in missionwide and divisional Capernaum trainings. Serve on the Capernaum leadership team to develop and implement strategies for vision and goal setting, developing training, materials and resources, fund raising and development for communication of this (and potentially other) strategic initiatives. Resource Development – “Fueling the ministry.” Includes events, major donor care, public relations (branding) and TDS team. Raise all personal financial support and maintain good donor care practices. Ensure all expenses are within the budget. Impart vision for Capernaum ministry to potential donors. Implement Taking Donors Seriously (TDS) procedures. Direct Ministry– “Proclaiming and modeling.” Includes contact work, club, Campaigners and camp. Ensure all three levels of contact work are being modeled for staff. Ensure excellent club principles are being modeled and taught. Ensure excellent discipleship opportunities are being offered and taught. Ensure all three types of camping are being modeled for staff. Be available to travel for speaking engagements. Ministry Support – “Taking care of business” Includes accounting, administration, communication (internal), data management and strategic plan. Ensure staff understand and know how to report ministry information in Growth Planning Software (GPS). Maintain professionalism concerning office hours, dress, conduct and time management, adhering to all Young Life policies and procedures. Develop an appropriate system for reporting, expense report responsibilities and the use of funds using Young Life accounting applications. Provide clear, prompt, appropriate and professional communication to everyone involved in ministry. Set yearly strategic ministry plan and initiatives and review them on a regular basis. Training: Attend area, regional and divisional staff times and retreats as needed. Pursue continuing education or training seminars to enhance professional skills. Participate in programs designed for personal spiritual maturity or enrichment. Working Conditions: Must fundraise entire personal budget. Frequent travel required. Will include the extremes of a camp assignment, e.g., heat/cold, dirt, long hours and the physical demands of hiking, horseback riding, boating, etc. Staff person must be able to handle these conditions. Education: College degree preferred. Qualifications Required For The Job: Commitment to a growing relationship with Christ. Past or current involvement in local or regional Capernaum ministry. Understanding of Young Life organizationally, preferably with staff ministry experience. Ability to clearly communicate the Gospel and train others accordingly. Ability to clearly communicate Young Life’s mission and the vision for Capernaum. Understanding of the unique issues faced by teens with disabilities and their families. Proven relational skills with both adolescents and adults. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Proven leadership abilities. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Proven strategic planning skills. Ability to implement new strategies. Ability to work independently as well as with a group. Self-motivated and goal-oriented. Highly creative with able to follow through with overall vision.
