What You’ll Do: The Vice President of Finance will lead Carey & Co.’s growing finance practice providing hands-on leadership to a national team of consultants and driving thoughtful growth across our client portfolio. This role is ideal for a strategic finance professional with deep nonprofit experience and a passion for building infrastructure, coaching teams, and identifying opportunities for impact. You will manage and mentor a high-performing bench of fractional bookkeepers, controllers, and CFOs while also contributing to business development and client relationship management. The ideal candidate has a people-first leadership style, thrives in a collaborative consulting environment, and brings a solution-oriented mindset to help mission-driven clients build financial sustainability. Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: Team Leadership and Financial Oversight (70%) • Supervise and support Carey & Co.’s finance consulting team, ensuring consistent, high-quality client service across all financial functions • Provide technical guidance and act as a senior advisor on complex accounting and financial strategy issues • Define performance goals and development pathways for finance consultants; conduct regular check-ins and performance reviews • Collaborate with the Director of Finance to staff new projects, optimize team capacity, and refine service delivery standards • Build and standardize internal systems, tools, and SOPs to ensure operational excellence across financial engagements • Promote a learning culture by facilitating regular peer learning, resource sharing, and internal trainings Business Development and Relationship Management (30%) • Collaborate with the Sales and Marketing teams to identify new client opportunities and support proposal development • Participate in scoping calls with prospective clients, ensuring alignment of client needs with Carey & Co. capabilities • Serve as a strategic partner to senior client stakeholders, building trust and delivering insight-driven solutions • Maintain strong client relationships to foster long-term engagements and referrals • Support visibility of Carey & Co.’s finance practice through thought leadership, panels, and industry events Organizational Stewardship • Contribute to Carey & Co.’s culture of excellence, collaboration, and inclusion • Participate in leadership meetings and cross-functional initiatives • Support internal goals by applying equity-informed practices to team leadership and client engagements What You’ll Need Experience & Expertise • 10+ years of progressive finance leadership experience, with significant experience in the nonprofit sector • Strong working knowledge of nonprofit accounting, fund accounting, GAAP, and restricted funds management • Experience leading and mentoring diverse teams in a consulting or service-oriented setting • Proven ability to manage complex client relationships and deliver high-touch financial guidance • Track record of supporting business development efforts and contributing to team growth • CPA, MBA, or equivalent experience preferred Skills • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities • High emotional intelligence and collaborative leadership style • Ability to navigate ambiguity and problem-solve in real time • Fluency in tools such as QuickBooks Online, Sage Intacct, and Excel; experience with Salesforce or HubSpot a plus Personal Attributes • Passionate about building financial resilience in the nonprofit sector • Committed to equity and inclusive team leadership • Grounded in humility, curiosity, and a service-oriented mindset • Energized by mentoring others and growing a practice area • Comfortable working independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment What We Offer: • Competitive salary based on experience and qualifications • Comprehensive health benefits and 401(k) • Flexible remote work and collaborative team culture • Opportunities for professional development and advancement How to Apply: Please send your resume and cover letter to In your cover letter, share how your leadership experience and values align with Carey & Co.’s mission and what excites you about this role.
