Tier 3 System Administrator (Remote)

Summary The System Administrator (Tier 3) provides advanced technical support and operational ownership for Windows server infrastructure, web servers, and Microsoft SQL Server, while supporting enterprise application deployments for the Automated Acquisition Management Solution (AAMS). This role is responsible for Tier 3 incident resolution, proactive monitoring, security hardening, and ensuring reliable deployments and operations across five (5) environments: Development, Test, Train, Pre-Production, and Production. The position works closely with Tier 1/2 support, engineering teams, and stakeholders to ensure stable, secure, and high-performing services. Key Responsibilities: Tier 3 Server and Platform Management (Windows) • Administer, maintain, and troubleshoot Windows Server environments, including patching, configuration management, performance tuning, and uptime assurance. • Provide advanced support for web servers (e.g., IIS or equivalent), including configuration, application hosting support, and issue remediation. • Administer and support Microsoft SQL Server, including connectivity, performance troubleshooting, and operational support activities. • Provide Tier 3 operational support for the Automated Acquisition Management Solution (AAMS), including technical troubleshooting and root-cause analysis. • Support application deployments and releases across 5 environments (Dev, Test, Train, PreProd, Prod), including validation, configuration checks, and post-deployment verification. • Collaborate with development and release teams to ensure deployments are executed consistently, safely, and with minimal downtime. • Perform proactive monitoring of servers, web services, and databases to identify and remediate issues before service impact occurs. • Lead or contribute to troubleshooting major incidents, including triage, root-cause analysis, and corrective/preventive actions. • Support and resolve escalated tickets from Tier 1/2 that cannot be resolved at lower tiers, ensuring timely and accurate resolution. • Implement and maintain security measures for supported systems and services, including SSL certificate installation, renewal, and validation. • Apply secure configuration practices to reduce risk and support organizational security objectives. • Serve as an interchangeable technical resource across the Tier 3 scope, providing coverage and support where operational priority is highest. • Document resolution steps, configuration changes, and operational procedures to improve service continuity and accelerate Tier 1/2 resolution over time. Required Skills and Qualifications: • Proven experience as a System Administrator supporting Windows Server production environments. • Strong experience supporting web servers and hosted application environments. • Working knowledge and operational support experience with Microsoft SQL Server. • Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose issues across application, server, and database layers. • SQL scripting capability (e.g., writing and running queries/scripts to troubleshoot, validate data, and support operational tasks). • Experience implementing security controls such as SSL/TLS certificates (installation, configuration, renewal, and troubleshooting). • Ability to work effectively in an escalation role supporting Tier 1/2 and collaborating across technical teams. Preferred Qualifications • Experience supporting enterprise applications across multiple environments (Dev/Test/PreProd/Prod). • Familiarity with monitoring tools and alert tuning practices. • Experience with release/deployment coordination and change control processes.
