Job Overview We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Therapeutic Recreation Specialist Assistant to work on a part-time basis (WAE position, not exceeding 1245 hours in a 12-month period) at our facility in Jackson, LA. As a key member of our rehabilitation team, you will assist professional therapeutic recreational specialist personnel in providing therapeutic recreational services to special populations, including conducting group and individual classes, field trips, and leisure counseling or education activities. Your expertise and passion for therapeutic recreation will enable our patients to achieve their full potential and improve their quality of life. Key Responsibilities Conduct a variety of therapeutic, recreational, leisure counseling, or education, and leisure skill development activities under the supervision of therapeutic recreational specialists Observe and assess patients' reactions to treatment and report reactions to professional therapeutic recreational specialist Maintain recreational equipment and ensure a safe and supportive environment for patients Escort clients to recreational activities and provide support as needed Supervise and assign work to nonprofessional therapeutic recreation personnel Provide some diversionary recreation or creative arts activities and services from time to time or on a continuing basis, in addition to medically prescribed therapy activities Essential Qualifications To be considered for this exciting opportunity, you must have: Two years of experience in an organized recreational program as a worker, teacher, instructor, or counselor College training will substitute for the required experience on the basis of thirty semester hours for one year of experience, provided that six semester hours of each thirty are in one or a combination of these specialized fields: recreation, recreation therapy, physical education, music therapy, art therapy, dance therapy, drama therapy, horticultural therapy, or psychology A degree from an accredited college or university Preferred Qualifications While not essential, the following qualifications are highly desirable: Experience working with special populations, including individuals with mental health needs Knowledge of therapeutic recreation principles and practices Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work effectively in a team environment Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment Skills and Competencies To succeed in this role, you will need to demonstrate the following skills and competencies: Strong understanding of therapeutic recreation principles and practices Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work effectively with patients, families, and healthcare professionals Strong organizational and time management skills Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion Career Growth Opportunities and Learning Benefits At ELMHS, we are committed to supporting the ongoing development and growth of our employees.
