Telecommunications Technician Trainee (IT Operations)
About the position Responsibilities • Adjust and tune Federal Communication Commission transmitters. • Install and maintain radio base equipment, modems, transmission lines, microwave, repeater stations, diversity receivers, consoles, display systems, and communications controllers. • Conduct frequent checks of equipment, including test instruments, for preventative maintenance and to ensure compliance with Federal Communications Commission rules and regulations. • Keep accurate records of communications systems performance, work accomplished, and other information. • Operate a variety of digital and analog electronic diagnostic equipment. • Perform related duteis as assigned. Requirements • Principles, practices, and procedures of electronic circuitry systems and electronic systems as applied to communications installation, maintenance, and repair. • Tools, methods, and equipment used in communications systems testing and repair. • Occupational hazards and standard safety precautions required in electrical and electronic work. • Recordkeeping and reporting procedures. • Radio frequency principles including transmission lines and emission, as well as digital and display technology. • Install, service, and repair communications equipment. • Interpret plans and schematic drawings. • Operate a variety of electronic diagnostic equipment. • Identify electrical and electronic problems or potential problems and take steps to effectively resolve them. • Understand and carry out oral and written instructions. • Work safely and under varying conditions. • One year of experience in communications systems installation, maintenance, and repair work. • One year of specialized training in electronics and electronic circuitry. A two year degree in electronics can be used as a substitution for the experience requirement. • Possession of a valid California Class C Driver License at the time of appointment. • Ability to acquire certification as technically qualified to perform transmitter installation, operation, maintenance, and repair by either the National Association of Business and Education Radio, the Associated Public Safety Communications Officers, or the Special Industrial Radio Service Assocation. Nice-to-haves • The ideal candidate will be able to support the Telecom group with the foundational skills in electronic technology, radio communications systems, or closely related field, including basic electronic fundamentals, with additional training in narrowband, or broadband radio theory.
