FINAL PROOFREADER for Memoir & Life Story Books (Legacy Storykeepers) Seeking someone meticulous, consistent, and extremely detail-oriented About Us: Legacy Storykeepers is a cultural preservation and storytelling company that helps elders and families document their life stories in beautifully published books. Our manuscripts are meaningful, personal, and deeply important to the families who trust us. We take quality seriously. We are hiring an exceptional Final Proofreader to serve as the last set of eyes before our manuscripts move into interior design and print. This is a high-precision role. If you're the kind of person who catches the smallest inconsistencies and errors others miss, we want to meet you. What You’ll Do You will proofread completed manuscripts — typically 25,000 to 80,000+ words — that have already gone through developmental and line editing. Your job is to ensure the manuscript is clean, consistent, and fully print-ready. You will review for: Grammar, punctuation, and syntax errors Incorrect or awkward word usage that slipped through prior edits Chapter-to-chapter consistency (names, dates, timelines, tone) Missing words, doubled words, or repeated phrases Formatting inconsistencies Style consistency (capitalization, voice, tense, formatting choices) Correct spelling of names, places, and recurring terms Timeline clarity or sequencing issues Chapter synchronization and overall readability After you, the book goes directly to design. You must be ON POINT. Requirements 3+ years of professional proofreading experience (books preferred) Experience with memoir, biography, or narrative nonfiction is a strong plus Impeccable command of English grammar Ability to preserve the author’s authentic voice Highly detail-oriented — meticulous is a must Comfortable working on longer manuscripts (40k–80k+ words) Strong communication and reliability Ability to meet deadlines consistently What Makes You a Great Fit • You take pride in being “the one who catches everything.” • You have a calm, focused approach to detailed work. • You’re able to flag inconsistencies respectfully and professionally.
