As a Staff Data Scientist specializing in Search Retrieval, you'll be at the forefront of improving and optimizing our search algorithms, driving innovation, and enhancing the user experience. About Indeed and the Role Indeed is a global job search and employment-related services platform that's been connecting job seekers with employers since 2004. As a Staff Data Scientist, you'll play a key role in shaping the future of job search technology. You'll lead a team, own fundamental workstreams, and drive technical direction to achieve product and technical goals. Your expertise in data science, machine learning, and search retrieval methodologies will be instrumental in developing and implementing robust solutions that make a real impact. Key Responsibilities Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance and optimize search algorithms for improved accuracy, relevance, and overall user experience. Experiment with Proof of Concept Machine Learning model improvements, scale them to production, and run iterative A/B experiments to enhance our matching technology. Define and clarify project objectives, deliverables, and success criteria in collaboration with cross-functional teams. Act as a bridge between technical and non-technical stakeholders, facilitating effective communication and understanding of project goals and outcomes. Mentor and develop other software engineers, data scientists, and Machine Learning Engineers across teams. Break down large Machine Learning projects into portions that deliver incremental business value and lead the team through implementation. Represent Indeed at major Machine Learning conferences like Neural Information Processing Systems (NeurIPS), International Conference on Machine Learning (ICML), and International Conference on Learning Representations (ICLR). Essential Qualifications To succeed in this role, you'll need: A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or related fields. 3+ years of industry experience as an AI Engineer, Data Scientist, or Machine Learning Engineer. Prior success in deploying impactful Machine Learning solutions to large-scale production systems, while collaborating across teams. Solid understanding of data structures and algorithms. Sense of ownership and accountability as a key contributor in the technical and product domains. Knowledge and hands-on experience working with Deep Learning Libraries (like Torch, Tensorflow, etc.). Excellent written and verbal communication in English, effective with technical and business audiences. Preferred Qualifications While not essential, the following qualifications will give you a competitive edge: Experience working on large-scale search retrieval systems. Knowledge of cloud-based technologies and containerization (e.g., Docker). Familiarity with Agile development methodologies. Experience with data visualization tools and techniques.
