Job Summary We are seeking a highly qualified Staff Accountant to provide general accounting support, financial management, and ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of accounting principles, excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders. As a Staff Accountant, you will perform a variety of tasks, including financial reporting, budgeting, and financial analysis, as well as provide support to the Controller and Assistant Controller in grant and financial aid activities. Key Responsibilities Perform general accounting support functions, including: Preparing reconciliations, period closes, projections, reports, and assisting with the general ledger Ensuring observance of professional standards and state rules, including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Governmental Accounting Standards, Higher Education Accounting Standards, and State Fiscal Rules Provide professional level support to the Controller and Assistant Controller in grant and financial aid activities, including: Ensuring the general ledger properly reflects financial aid and grant activities Performing reconciliations, processing check requests, and working with the Financial Aid Department to clear outstanding items Ensuring grant activities comply with all applicable regulations and guidance Process monthly and bi-weekly payrolls, reconcile and record daily bank transactions, and initiate wire transfers Account for capital transactions, including recording depreciation and performing inventory Provide back-up coverage for other departmental functions/tasks Perform special projects and other duties as assigned Essential Qualifications A Bachelor's degree in Accounting and two (2) years of technical/professional experience in accounting An Associate's degree in Accounting and four (4) years of technical/professional experience in accounting Six (6) years of technical/professional experience in accounting Knowledge of Accounting Principles Generally Accepted in the United States of America (GAAP) Effective computer skills, especially in the use of Excel spreadsheets Strong communication, analytical, organizational, and people skills Demonstrated ability in problem-solving, multitasking, and time management Preferred Qualifications Experience in accounting or other related to grants and/or financial aid and/or payroll Capital accounting experience Experience with higher education or governmental financial reporting (GASB) Experience working with Banner and/or CORE Experience working with cross-functional teams What We Offer As a valued member of our team, you will enjoy a comprehensive benefits package, including: Competitive salary ($54,000 - $59,400 per year) Generous medical, dental, vision, life, and retirement options Tuition reimbursement program for you and your dependents Opportunities for professional growth and development Diverse and inclusive work environment How to Apply If you are a motivated and detail-oriented accounting professional looking for a challenging role that makes a positive impact, we encourage you to apply for this exciting opportunity.
