Software Engineer Embedded/Network Systems I (Intern)
Contribute to developing next-generation operating systems, firmware, and networking stacks at Cisco, a leader in trusted networking technologies. Your Role Key responsibilities include: • Developing and maintaining critical software and tools for hardware compatibility, network performance, and security. • Working on operating systems, firmware, networking stacks, and security infrastructure. • Collaborating with teams such as Common Hardware Group, Network Product Engineering, Infrastructure & Security. • Gaining hands-on experience with hardware-software integration and low-level networking technologies. • Managing time effectively and streamlining processes to deliver high-quality, resilient, and efficient solutions. About You The company is looking for: • Currently enrolled in a certification program (e.g., Boot Camp, Apprenticeship, Community College) or an undergraduate degree program. • Proficiency in C programming and experience with embedded Linux, including operating system fundamentals. • Familiarity with network principles, routing protocols, and general networking concepts. • Hands-on experience with automation tools and scripting languages such as Python or Bash. • Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions). • Understanding of DevSecOps practices in software development workflows. • Preferred: Conceptual or hands-on experience with AI/ML, cybersecurity principles, FPGA development, signal and power integrity, and PCB design. Compensation & Benefits • Salary range in New York City Metro Area and non-Metro New York state & Washington state: $44,000 - $185,000. • Medical, dental, and vision insurance. • 401(k) plan with Cisco matching contribution. • Paid parental leave, short and long-term disability coverage, and basic life insurance. • Eligibility for Cisco restricted stock units vesting over time. • Paid time off including 10 paid holidays, 1 floating holiday (non-exempt), birthday off, year-end shutdown, 4 personal wellness days. • Vacation: 16 days paid for non-exempt employees; flexible vacation time off for exempt employees. • 80 hours sick time on hire and annually, with carryover. • Additional paid time off for family emergencies and 10 paid volunteer days annually. • Annual bonuses for non-sales roles; performance-based incentive pay for sales roles with no cap on compensation.
