About the Opportunity The Senior Director, Talent Business Partners and Employee Relations (SD, TBPER) leads a team of experienced talent strategists and the Director of Employee Relations to ensure that College Board's people strategies and practices strengthen leadership, drive organizational performance, and enable every team to deliver on our mission. This role bridges strategy and execution, ensuring TBPs are effective strategic partners to senior leaders, while also resolving people challenges swiftly, fairly, and consistently through strong alignment with theTalent Enablement, Talent Acquisition, and Talent Operations teams. This is a role for a strategic operator and people leader- someone who can zoom out to drive organizational alignment and culture, and zoom in to coach, build, and manage a high-performing, mission-driven team. The role ultimately ensures that: • Our most senior leaders have trusted, strategic talent counsel. • People issues are resolved quickly, fairly, and consistently. • Our Talent Business Partners operate as a cohesive, high-performing team. • Our talent systems are aligned, integrated, and enable seamless execution across the employee lifecycle. The SD, TBPER manages a team of six Talent Business Partners and one Director of Employee Relations, while personally serving as the TBP for key executive leaders. The SD will spend their time on the following: Lead and Develop a High-Performing Team (40%) • Manage, coach, and develop a team of six Senior Directors (TBPs) and one Director of Employee Relations, ensuring excellence in partnership, strategy, and execution. • Model College Board's Operating Principles and Manager Expectations, ensuring the team leads with clarity, accountability, and focus. • Build a collaborative, data-informed, and impact-oriented culture within the TBP team. • Create clear standards of excellence for how BPs partner with leaders and deliver talent strategy across the organization. • Ensure the Employee Relations function provides timely, consistent, and fair resolution of complex people issues, freeing BPs to focus on organizational performance and strategy. Serve as a Trusted Talent Partner for key Executive Leaders (20%) • Act as the primary TBP for key executive leaders, to be determined, offering strategic counsel on leadership effectiveness, organization design, workforce planning, and talent development. • Build deep, trusted relationships with senior leaders, influencing decisions that strengthen organizational performance and leadership culture. • Anticipate challenges and proactively offer solutions that balance business needs, culture, and employee experience. Drive Strategic Alignment Across Talent Functions (30%) • Partner withTalent Enablement (learning, performance, and career growth), Talent Acquisition (talent recruitment) and Talent Operations (benefits, Talent Generalists) to ensure consistent, connected, and forward-looking talent practices. • Create systems and norms that enable seamless collaboration between TBPs, Enablement, TA, and Operations, particularly in workforce planning, internal mobility, and leadership development. • Institute relevant data collection and use talent data and insights to inform organizational priorities, succession planning, and talent pipeline development. • Ensure talent decisions and practices are consistent with our OPMEs and reinforce fairness, simplicity, and strong performance. Advance Organizational Health and Culture (10%) • Identify systemic issues and opportunities across divisions; design and drive cross-functional interventions that improve clarity, accountability, and engagement. • Translate data from engagement surveys, performance trends, and feedback loops into actionable plans for leaders. • Champion a healthy culture that balances high performance with inclusion, belonging, and well-being. The Talent Business Partners and Employee Relations Role Requires: An exceptional people leader and strategist who thrives at the intersection of organizational design, leadership development, and team performance. The ideal candidate brings the following: • Exceptional record of achievement; demonstrated success advising executive leaders on complex organizational issues and leading through change. • Strong business acumen, systems thinking, and data fluency. • Deep understanding of organizational effectiveness, leadership development, and employee relations. • Exceptional judgment, discretion, and communication skills- able to influence and collaborate across all levels. • At least 15 years of strategic talent work experience, including direct management of senior level business partners or other Talent leaders. • SHRM-SCP or SPHR certification. • Deep knowledge of employment law, compliance, and HR best practices.
