About the Role We are seeking a Security Specialist to support enterprise security, cyber architecture, and compliance operations within a large federal environment. The ideal candidate has experience supporting audit processes, managing security change requests, and ensuring that cloud/on-prem environments meet federal security standards. Candidates with direct IRS experience—or experience supporting IRS security frameworks, ELC, MITS, or IRS modernization programs—will receive strong preference. This role is critical in maintaining secure, compliant systems across multi-cloud and on-prem platforms used by federal agencies. Key Responsibilities • Document, track, and manage Security Change Requests in accordance with IRS policies, federal security frameworks, and internal procedures. • Develop, maintain, and enhance audit logging, monitoring, and reporting solutions. • Support cyber architecture design and implementation for secure IRS systems and workloads. • Assist with risk assessments, vulnerability analysis, and compliance validation activities. • Contribute to the development of enterprise security standards, governance, and policies aligned with IRS guidelines. • Collaborate with engineering, infrastructure, and cloud teams to ensure secure configurations across M365, Azure, Windows Server, and SQL environments. • Prepare documentation for audits, ATO packages, POA&Ms, and continuous monitoring. • Participate in security incident response activities and provide guidance on remediation steps. • Support cross-functional teams on initiatives that improve overall IRS-aligned security posture. Required Qualifications • 3–7+ years of experience in cybersecurity, information security, or IT security operations. • Strong understanding of security change management, audit logging, and compliance-driven environments. • Experience supporting or integrating with federal security frameworks (e.g., NIST 800-53, FISMA). • Demonstrated knowledge of cyber architecture, system security engineering, and secure configuration practices. • Experience collaborating with technical teams on risk mitigation, vulnerability management, and audit responses. • Strong communication and documentation skills. • IRS experience strongly preferred, including: • IRS MITS/OIT security work • IRS cybersecurity initiatives • IRS ELC processes • IRS audit or compliance programs Preferred Qualifications • Security certifications such as Security+, CySA+, CASP, CISSP, CCSP, or equivalent. • Experience with M365, Azure, or enterprise cloud security tools. • Background supporting ATO processes, RMF, POA&M tracking, or federal audit requirements. • Familiarity with Splunk, Azure Sentinel, Defender, or other SIEM/SOAR tools.
