About the position The Safety and Occupational Health Manager at the CDC serves as the senior specialist and consultant for laboratory safety programs within the National Center for HIV, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention (NCHHSTP). This role involves consulting with laboratory staff on complex biosafety issues, implementing and evaluating safety programs, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations in laboratories engaged in advanced scientific research. Responsibilities • Serve as the senior occupational health and safety specialist for NCHHSTP laboratory safety programs. • Consult with laboratory staff and safety officers on complex laboratory biosafety issues. • Implement and evaluate biosafety-related laboratory practices. • Conduct reviews of laboratory biosafety procedures and practices. • Evaluate and approve laboratory processes and advise on biosafety improvements. • Participate in interagency committees on biological safety disciplines. • Provide guidance on site-specific standard operating procedures and documentation for laboratory operations. • Operationalize the NCHHSTP Laboratory Safety Program by developing standardized procedures and documentation. Requirements • At least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in safety and occupational regulations. • Experience applying safety and occupational health requirements in infectious disease laboratories. Nice-to-haves • Experience with laboratory biosafety training exercises. • Knowledge of quality management processes in laboratory settings.
