Lawyers on Demand (LOD), a Consilio company, is partnering with a tech startup in its search for a Legal Counsel – Risk and Compliance to join their team on a long-term, indefinite temporary engagement. This is an exciting opportunity to build and lead a risk and compliance function from the ground up. The role could transition to a permanent position for the right candidate. Role Details • Start: ASAP • Duration: Long-term, indefinite temporary (potential to become permanent) • Location: Remote (ideal candidates based in San Francisco, Austin, or New York City) • Hours: Full-time • Pay Rate: Starting at $90 hourly, commensurate with experience Position Overview The Legal Counsel – Risk and Compliance will play a key role in developing and implementing a comprehensive risk and compliance program for a fast-growing technology company. This is a highly autonomous position suited for a proactive attorney with strong startup experience and the ability to build processes from scratch. Responsibilities • Design, implement, and oversee the company’s risk and compliance program • Support the development of the IST (Information Security & Technology) program and related compliance processes • Advise leadership on regulatory, data protection, and operational risk matters • Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with applicable laws and internal policies • Serve as a strategic business partner to leadership, driving initiatives forward with minimal supervision Qualifications • J.D. and active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction • 5+ years of relevant legal experience, ideally within a tech startup or fast-paced corporate environment • Proven ability to build and operationalize compliance programs • Self-starter mindset with excellent judgment, independence, and adaptability LOD is proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
