The Research Assistant of Derisking Energy Systems will support advanced research on hydrogen deployment by integrating data-driven methods and machine learning to inform risk-based planning and policy development. Responsibilities Employing Machine learning for data-driven, scalable, and interpretable model that facilitates risk-based hydrogen rollout planning, policy zoning, and well-informed decision-making Data Collection and Technical Feasibility Conducting safety, integration, and performance Analysis Employing Machine learning to develop a spatial machine learning framework for societal risk zoning for different sectors in the hydrogen chain Developing evidence-based policy and regulatory recommendations supporting safe deployment and compliance of the proposed hydrogen system Carrying out site integration and comprehensive safety and risk assessment of the proposed hydrogen facilities configuration Skills Master's in Science / Engineering Experience with machine learning techniques, particularly for predictive modelling or spatial analysis. Experience working with technical, engineering, or environmental datasets Experience conducting safety, risk, or performance assessments (e.g., system safety, hazard analysis, risk modeling) Proficiency in Python, or similar tools for data analysis and model development Experience applying data-driven or computational methods to support policy, regulatory analysis, or planning Ability to interpret and communicate analytical findings clearly for technical and non-technical audiences Benefits Comprehensive benefits package Company Overview The University of Alberta is a public research university offering both undergraduate and graduate degree programs.
