[Remote] Regulatory Counsel (iGaming)

Initiate International is a fast-growing online betting and gaming operator seeking a Regulatory Counsel to help them scale across the US. The role focuses on providing regulatory advice, managing licensing applications, and ensuring compliance with US state gaming regulations. Responsibilities • Provide clear, business-focused regulatory advice on US iGaming and sports betting laws and licensing conditions across multiple states • Support and manage licensing applications, renewals, amendments, and regulatory notifications, working closely with Compliance and external counsel where required • Monitor regulatory developments (rule changes, guidance, enforcement trends) and turn them into practical, state-by-state requirements and actions • Advise on product features, UX, terms and conditions, promotions, bonuses, and marketing campaigns to ensure compliance with state and federal rules, advertising standards, and consumer protection requirements • Partner with Product and Technology on new launches and enhancements – identifying regulatory risks early and embedding requirements into design and delivery • Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements with a regulatory dimension (platform providers, content suppliers, payment processors, market access partners, data providers) • Work closely with Compliance, AML/MLRO, and Responsible Gambling teams to ensure a coherent control framework across regulatory, financial crime, and safer gambling • Support responses to regulatory examinations, audits, investigations, and information requests, preparing clear, well-structured submissions • Contribute to internal policies, procedures, risk assessments, and training related to licensing, regulatory compliance, and advertising standards • Prepare concise briefings for senior management on regulatory risk, upcoming changes, and the implications for product roadmap and market entry Skills • Qualified lawyer (US or other common law jurisdiction) with strong post-qualification experience in regulatory, gambling, financial services, or technology law • Proven ability to interpret statutes, regulations, licence conditions, and regulator guidance – and convert them into practical, actionable advice for non-lawyers • Experience supporting licensing applications, market access arrangements, or regulatory projects in a multi-jurisdictional environment • Strong drafting skills for T&Cs, internal policies, compliance frameworks, and commercial contracts • Commercial mindset: able to frame options in terms of risk, opportunity, and trade-offs – not just 'yes' or 'no' • Highly organised, comfortable managing multiple matters and deadlines in a fast-paced, growth-focused environment • Confident communicator who can engage effectively with Product, Compliance, Marketing, Operations, senior leadership, and regulators • Provide clear, business-focused regulatory advice on US iGaming and sports betting laws and licensing conditions across multiple states • Support and manage licensing applications, renewals, amendments, and regulatory notifications, working closely with Compliance and external counsel where required • Monitor regulatory developments (rule changes, guidance, enforcement trends) and turn them into practical, state-by-state requirements and actions • Advise on product features, UX, terms and conditions, promotions, bonuses, and marketing campaigns to ensure compliance with state and federal rules, advertising standards, and consumer protection requirements • Partner with Product and Technology on new launches and enhancements – identifying regulatory risks early and embedding requirements into design and delivery • Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements with a regulatory dimension (platform providers, content suppliers, payment processors, market access partners, data providers) • Work closely with Compliance, AML/MLRO, and Responsible Gambling teams to ensure a coherent control framework across regulatory, financial crime, and safer gambling • Support responses to regulatory examinations, audits, investigations, and information requests, preparing clear, well-structured submissions • Contribute to internal policies, procedures, risk assessments, and training related to licensing, regulatory compliance, and advertising standards • Prepare concise briefings for senior management on regulatory risk, upcoming changes, and the implications for product roadmap and market entry • Direct experience or strong exposure to US iGaming and/or sports betting regulation (e.g. New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Michigan or other regulated states) is a significant advantage Benefits • Remote flexibility: Fully remote within the USA, with occasional travel for key meetings, strategy sessions, and regulatory interactions. • Competitive package: Attractive salary, benefits, and incentives aligned with a senior regulatory legal role in a growth-stage operator.
